Sony's PSP Go Surfaces Up Before Its Time (Update: Now Official – $249)

It’s not that we were totally surprised when Sony’s new gaming console abruptly showed up in a June 09 Qore edition – after all, rumors are floating around for quite some time – Yet, having a first look on a future portable gaming device can definitely rock our geeky heart, which barely stands the endless expectation for the official announcement to take place. And with so many neat features crammed inside, It shouldn’t take long until we snack ourselves a copy or two. But until we’ll manage to fulfill this dream, you all should probably like to know that Sony’s new PSP GO – as for on the go – seems to be offered with a 3.8-inch screen display, along with a built-in Bluetooth connectivity, rounded sleeky slider design and 16GB of internal Flash, expandable via Memory Stick Micro slot. Other essential traits to be noted include a smooth integration with PlayStation 3 gaming console (full network support), thin-and-light body design (43% lighter than PSP-3000), “10-year life-cycle products” guarantee (meaning long term viability) and various new action-game titles like Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet and Metal Gear Solid – in plan. With no pretensions to be crowned as a PSP-3000 successor and without determined price-tag given, all that’s left is a vague “This Fall” release announcement, which Sony executives were willing to share. Update1: Sony just announced the PSP Go at the E3 convention, to be available on October 1 in North America and Europe for $249, with a month later release in Japan. Turns out it’s 50% smaller and 40% lighter than Sony’s first PSP-1000 console, as most other specs remain the same, with few surprises at the corner – like a built-in WiFi connection, a new auto-playlist feature which randomly plays your favorite music and called Sense Me, a new video delivery service, and a lack of the UMD drive, implying you’ll be loading your games either through the Memory Stick Micro slot or over PlayStation’s network. Update2: In case you were all wondering what will happen to your old UMD games, once getting the PSP GO, maybe you should know that Sony will be offering for purchasing digital copies of those gamese, but maybe – just maybe – the company will be generous enough to make it even free of charge. Zune HD Officially Announced, Going Live This Fall

After so many rumors and speculations floating around, Microsoft has finally announced the Zune HD, which suppose to make its first appearance somewhere this fall, competing head-to-head with Apple’s popular iPod Touch player. Regretfully, there’s nothing much to share in terms of specs or features, but from the very few fragments we’ve managed to collect, you briefly can figure out it’ll probably pack a 3.3-inch 480 x 272 OLED capacitive touchscreen, together with a built-in HD Radio receiver, 720P HD output (via dock station), integrated WiFi connection and accelerometer sensors for landscape usability. Additionally, you might find a designated Explorer browser for internet surfing purposes and hopefully, a mashup interface with Xbox / Xbox Live gaming consoles. Still, no pricing or capacity details to write about, although one should expect either 16GB or 32GB flavors inside, but this way or another those rumored images earlier published, make no place for mistakes – Zune HD is live and kicking. Update1: The guys at Gizmodo have managed to put their hands on the freakishly new Zune HD while hanging around D7’s conference hall. First images indicate an incredibly thin-and-light design, combined with a stunning 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen, basic Zune UI, adjusted to the touch navigation mode and rounded edges, build with a big “Home” button placed at the bottom lefte.  Hit the jump to watch the video or their link for even more images.

Update2: Zune Insider has officially confirmed that Zune HD will be running NVIDIA’s Tegra chipset inside, which means – full high-def video compatibility in the palm of your hand. Still no word about final release dates, but we’re following.

Update3: Rumors around claim the new Zune HD will be priced somewhere betweem $249 and $280 for the 16GB version, while a 64GB modelis on the prep for a late release. Stay tuned.

Update4: Both BestBuy and Amazon have just listed up the Zune HD on their inventory system , priced at $220 for the 16GB model, and $290 for the 32GB version, coming on September 8th. It’s less than a month to go, so stay tuned.

iRiver's B30 PMP Abruptly Surfaces Up In Korea

In case you haven’t heard, South Korean iRiver has just released a new PMP device for the Asian market, with minor chances to hit some western shelves in the near future. Nevertheless, the new B30 device is claimed to have a 2.8-inch QVGA display, along with an FM tuner, T-DMB connectivity, a microSD expansion slot, and either 4GB, 8GB or 16GB storage capacities to choose from. Additionally, this wide range codecs-compatible unit is offered in various flavors, including Black, White or Silver hues, while battery should provide up to 40 hours of audio playback or 5.5 hours of video time – all competitively priced at $155 (4GB) and $183 (8GB), with flight costs excluded.

Cube's H200D PMP Brings HDMI Compatibility To Chinese Users

Cube is not a stranger for us, as we’ve already posted about its recent HD-compatible PMPs lineup, not long ago. But having one or two media players is probably not enough for some companies, which explains why Cube has launched another media device, that answers the name H200D and boasts an HDMI output, together with basic formats support and a whole bunch of flavors to choose from. Nothing else to share at this point, although you won’t be able to get this one outside of China, at the moment.

Barely, can you find PMP devices outside the Asian borders with different titles other than iPod, iRiver, Cowon, or Zune. It takes a plenty of guts to make a direct move against those giants, releasing your very own multimedia brand, while most people prefer having one of the noted players. But hands-up, walking against all odds is something we should admire, especially if the company has no clever PR to carry your name throughout the blogsphere. Such company, is S-Tech Digital that recently released the Sonix7 Media Pro PMP, which packs a 3.2-inch touchscreen, together with a built-in camera, a speaker, a neat accelerometer sensor, 30 hours of audio battery that also provides 20 hours of video playback and either 8GB or 16GB capacities to choose from, priced at £89.99 ($136) and £104.99 ($159), respectively. Energy Sistem To Release The 30xx PMP Series For The Low-End Market

We’ve already seen Energy Sistem products in the past, but this time the company “really” aims to take over the low-end market with the new 30xx PMPs series, which packs a 1.8-inch display, an FM tuner, a built-in mic, dual headphone jacks (???), up to 16GB of storage capacity, and a weird speaker on front, to let you share your favorite music with your surroundings. Despite the cheap colorful external design, each player can easily handle most common codecs, and while there’s no info about availability, we hear those new devices will go on sale for around $149.

Sony's NWZ X-Series Walkmans Finally Turns Official Stateside

Great news for those who’ve been anxiously waiting Sony’s new OLED walkman series to hit western shores, as the company officially announces a US release, while some Asian parts of the world already enjoy this 3-inch wonder for almost a month. Apparently, American citizens can order their piece of audio technology from Amazon and pay the same prices Apple listed the iPod Touch players, which means you get to choose between 16GB / 32GB capacities, both scheduled to mid-June. And if your memory just ditched for a second, we’re here to remind that your options include either the NWZ- X1051 version (16GB ), priced at $299, or the double sized NWZ- X1061 edition for only $399.

Creative's Zen MX PMP Introduced In Japan

Creative is refreshing the lines, introducing a new Zen PMP which will go live in Japan on May 5th for ¥9,800 ($100) in case you’re into the 8GB model or ¥13,800 ($140) if 16GB will suit you better. Other than that, the Zen MX includes a 2.5-inch 320 x 240 display, a traditional SDHC expansion slot, and size that stands at 83.2 × 55 × 11.9mm, 66g. Different from previous Zen devices, this one can handle a limited codecs range, like MP3, WMA (DRM support), Audible 4, JPG, WMV, DivX and Creative’s own video-CMV format, so don’t expect miracles in this one for such a low price. On a different note, the company announces a substantial price cut in Zen X-Fi prices to make your recession just a little sweeter than it is right now — how thoughtful.

Samsung YP-P3 PMP Finally Gets a 32GB Edition

If any of you wondered whether Samsung has any upgrading plans for its fancy YP-P3 PMP, the company has just got the answer we were looking for, announcing a 32GB edition to go live in Korea  right away for merely 389,000 won, which are just about $290. Still no word about Western availability, but like previous versions, be sure it’ll make a worldwide appearance short time after.

MSI To Introduce New PMPs Lineup In China

We’ve recently seen a lot of action coming from MSI’s direction, specially within the netbooks world. However, the company proves to have myriad of values to share with, as a new PMP series has been announced in China, featuring five different platforms to choose from. Starting from the basic, the MV622, which will cost you only 198 yuan (US $29), features a 2.4-inch display, 2GB of internal storage and three flavors to be picked. the second one is the MV651, which boasts a 3-inch 400 x 240 screen, together with FM tuner, 4GB of storage and a TV-output, all priced at 299 yuan ($44). The third, MV652, offers either 4GB ($51) or 8GB ($58) capacities, while seems to be the only kid in the block which has an integrated touchscreen inside, as the fourth version, MV881 sports a 4.3-inch display (without a touchscreen) along with the same traits you get inside the previous device, for $58 (4GB) or $73 (8GB). Last but not least, is the MV882 that comes with an S-video output and 720P video support for high-def interaction, priced at merely $58 (8GB). Naturally, you get to play most of the common formats (available in the market) in all units and some can also handle your e-book files, still we can’t be sure those new cheap PMPs will ever find a place on Western shelves.

Cube's H100HD Brings 1080i Video Quality To Your PMP

It started getting trendy nowadays, with multimedia companies showing off their top-notch HD devices, covered with lavish designs which contains impeccable capabilities inside. However, while most units support up to 720P, Cube has taken few steps forward by integrating 1080i video output and turned its latest H100HD PMP into one of the most advanced machines in the market, that plays myriad of formats in one small place. Sure, the new player can easily handle 720p as well, but the big thing is the 1920 X 1080 screen resolution this bad boy can handle. HD video aside, the new H100HD player packs an FM tuner, e-Book reader and a nice trait that lets you play flash games on the road. We’re not so sure if any of you, western users, will ever have a chance buying this phenomena across the street, but we do promise to update the price and availability, once released.

RAmos Terminator T12 HD PMP Introduced

No, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not involved in this new T12 PMP from RAmos, still, it carries the “Terminator” title, along with a 5-inch 800 x 480 display and a strong Rockchip RK2806 processor, which can easily upscale any Avi/RMVB files to 1280×720 resolution at a full 30fps, or just play H.264 videos, placed inside the 8GB, 16GB or 32GB capacities the player has to offer. Additionally, the 12mm device, that somehow reminds us the Archos 5 media tablet, comes with a small knob wheel (on the right side), so you can handle the menus upside down as fast as a rocket while playing your favorite Depech Mode album on the go – And yes, both  T12 and Depech Mode are expected to go out on live tour (separately) somewhere in May – We do hold a DM ticket but still don’t have any clue about the Terminator’s pricing.

Teclast's M66 PMP To Include 5" Display And 720P Video Support

Chinese company Teclast introduces a new PMP device, which answers the name M66 and packs a 5-inch display, supporting 720p video decoder, together with a wide range of format compatibility (like H.264 MKV, RM / RMVB, or AVI) to handle high-def media. Additionally, the M66 features a Rockchip RK2806 processor, that seems strong enough to play rich content on the go, while UI control is navigated by a group of sensitive buttons, placed under the screen. Right now, there’s no word on price or availability, but we’re doing our best to bring this info as fast as we can.

So this is the new trend in Asia, right? high-definition PMP’s to handle quality videos and compete with those big netbooks that hardly can get into your pockets. This time It’s Cube with their latest B52HD device that boasts a 5-inch 480 x 272 display and wide range of codecs support, including MP3, WMA, WAV, APE, FLAC, Ogg for audio files or RM, RMVB, MPEG, AVI, FLV for video playback, with a video output that can play 1280 x 720 encoding on your tele. In addition, the B52HD packs 8GB of storage, together with a slot expansion, to make it even bigger room for your media files – all for about 499 yuan ($75).

Microsoft Preps a New Zune HD For The Summer (Update:Probably September)

According to a tipster, Microsoft will presumably release a new Zune player with HD capabilities, somewhere this year. Naturally, we have no other details, nor any specs of the new device itself, but if this info is correct, and it sure looks reliable, the Zune 4th Generation should be available with a wide and sharp touchscreen, supporting high-def video and some other features, which you can find in the iPod Touch players. Stay tuned for more to come.

Update1: More uncertain specs show up across the cyber world, revealing a 16:9 AMOLED display with multi-touch usability (capacitive), joining the mini-HDMI output and the HD Radio feature, both bundled inside, along with a full HTML browser, to wirelessly surf the web. And while we have no special ability to determine “details accuracy”, you should take our word when we say it’ll be offered either in 16GB or 32GB capacities. However, In case you look for even more speculative rumors, Zune fanboys will also tell you the new HD device might support 3D XBox games, thanks to the integrated NVidia chipset, which we really hope to see included. Other than that, a worldwide release is said to take place somewhere around September, so stay tuned for real things to come.

Update2: May 12th 2009 – According to ZDNet, the next Zune / Windows Mobile device (AKA: Chassis 1) will feature a whole bunch of top-notch specs, including a 3.5-inch multi-touch display along with ARM v6+ processor, 1GB of RAM, OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics hardware, 3 megapixel camera, GPS navigation system, WiFi / Bluetooth connections, built in accelerometer and even Nvidia’s Tegra platform, integrated with TI’s OMAP 3  and “Qualcomm 8k” chipsets, to handle those strong requirements. Of course, these are just rumors, and we can’t take them that serious, although we do hold an opinion that Chassis 1 will be strong enough to match market demands.

Samsung's MBP200 Combines an MP3 Player And a Micro Projector In One Small Device

After a quick appearance at the CES show, Samsung has officially launched the MBP200 micro projector unit in Korea, to be available for ? 400,000.00 (€225). Sized only 109.7×48.8x19mm at 140g, the new ultra portable device features a 2.2-inch 320 X 240 color LCD, along with 190MB of internal memory (expendable up to 16GB with both included microSD/SD card slots), DMB TV tuner and photo viewer. But if projecting your stuff isn’t enough, the MBP200 can also be used as an mp3 player, supporting most common formats, like MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, and WAV for audio playback, or DivX, Xvid, WMV9 Simple Profile, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 for video broadcasting. Additionally, you’ll be able to read your Adobe/Office documents through the machine itself, which can easily load up PDF, PPT, DOC, XLS, and TXT files whenever you’d like. Onda To Release The VX555HD, Another PMP In The High-Def Dynasty

It looks like Chinese corporation Onda is trying to flood the market with HD players, supporting 720P video quality. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain why on earth the company has just released the VX555HD, only 3 months after the VX535HD has made its first appearance in public. HD compatibility aside, the new PMP packs a 3-inch display, an FM tuner, TV output and wide range of codecs support. Other than that, the people in Onda  promise a low and competitive price tag that will match global recession atmosphere, and while availability is obscure you’ll have to stay tuned to learn more.

We all wish for bigger and faster hard drives inside our laptops (particularly in Dell’s Mini 9 netbook) and the guys at Jkkmobile have proved us again it’s “easy” and possible to get better ones, specially if you have any electronic affinity or DIY passion. Although this modding process might intimidate many of you, there’s nothing sensational to be done besides the unscrewing and replacing actions, which are considered to be the facile part, while putting things back together is the “more difficult” stage in the process, but those who read these lines probably won’t mind watching the video after the break.

Archos 2 / 4 Flash Players Show Up In The Wild (Update: Now Official)

After an unsuccessful effort to get into the mp3 players world with the 105 mediocre device, French company Archos is retrying to take a foothold within this category by releasing two flash players out of the blue, to be available in different hues and different capacities. First one, which already is available in Amazon for few hours and known as the Archos 2 packs either 8GB ($60) or 16GB ($92) capacities, together with a 1.8-inch 128 x 160 display, a microSD slot expansion, an FM tuner, a mic and a battery that can play up to 12 audio hours or 4, in case you prefer video files. The second, which is yet to be revealed, also known as the Archos 4, and is expected to have a 4-inch display with up to 32GB capacity inside. Other than that, there are no further details to share, so stay tuned for more to come.

Update1: Looks like Archos2 just turned official and is now available for purchasing  at the company’s website, as the 8GB version, which is still in “coming soon” status goes for $59.99, while the 16GB model will set you back for $99.99. Additionally, a blue version should be released somewhere this year, but we have no specific date to share yet.

iRiver's E150 PMP To Join The E100 Family In Korea

Following the popular E100 and its “Season 2” sequel, iRiver has just introduced the E150, which is pretty much the same PMP from inside and a little different from the outside. So what do you get for a $78 4GB bit or alternatively, a double storage $100 device? Well…Pretty much the same 2.4-inch QVGA screen, microSD slot, a full range of formats support and either black, silver, and pink colors to choose from. Only different, if you’re asking, is the extra 2mm width, housing integrated buttons and attractive speaker grills, which give a lucrative look to the new player. Regretfully, there’s no word about a US release at the near future, but you can start counting down until it comes – because it will.

iRiver To Introduce The P35 PMP, Coming with Integrated WiFi And Browsing Capabilities

Those who missed iRiver, should be interested knowing that reigncom has just announced a new PMP device with 802.11b/g Wifi connection and full browsing capabilities. The new P35, which is already on sale in South Korea, sports a nice sleeky design, packing a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 display, SPINN navigator and a built-in accelerometer, for landscape viewing. In addition, it comes with a microSD slot, DMB-TV (bundled with a remote control), wide range of codecs support and either 8GB or 16GB capacities to choose from. Further more, you get the ability to use the “FTP Server” from the player itself, while playing with the UCI widgets that iRiver included inside. Regretfully, there are no details about Stateside shipping, but word on the street says you’ll be able to get the 16 gigs for only $286.

Samsung YP-CP3 PMP Introduced

Although it may have some P3 qualities, the new YP-CP3 PMP from Samsung looks a little bigger, but still well designed. Other than that, it is expected to house a 3-inch 400 x 240 display, together with an FM tuner, a mic, microSD expansion slot and a joystick control, to navigate your way through the menus. We can’t be sure whether this device will include a WiFi connection, but formats wise, it does support a wide range of files, like MPEG4, WMV, SVI, RMVB, WMA, Ogg, WAV, FLAC, RM,  and TXT. Naturally, at this point there are no price or availability details to share, so stay tuned for more to come.

Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 To Have MMS Messaging, Copy And Paste, P2P Connectivity And a Lot More (Now: Jailbreak)

Apple’s OS 3.0 preview event in Cupertino, California was just ended with some interesting announcements concerning hardware accessories, firmware tweaks, App Store business model improvements and some new games/software developments – answering most of our long lasting expectations. Although it was more of a conference, targeting third party developers, some of the news are all about iPhone’s consumers usability. That includes:

  • Copy & Paste capabilities.
  • MMS messaging support.
  • Forward and delete for multiple messages.
  • Peer-to-peer connectivity over Bluetooth for gaming and info exchange.
  • A2DP stereo Bluetooth add-on
  • Voice Memos.
  • A new home screen page with Spotlight feature, allowing universal search on the phone (like Palm’s Pre).
  • Shake To Shuffle function.
  • Landscape keyboard, available in Mail, Notes and SMS.

First event without Steve Jobs around, and everyone in Apple talks about a complete return to CEO position somewhere around June 2009. But illness matters aside, we’ve learned that the company craves for extra revenues, specially from third-party applications. That is why developers will be able to include subscription fee inside paid apps, together with optional paid content that can be purchased directly from the app itself (like T-shirts and other stuff). Developers will also be able to build apps combined with Google Maps or connect with hardware accessories, such as computer speakers, keyboard and even a blood pressure monitor, through their applications. The new package will include 1,000 new APIs, allowing push notifications (at last), in-game voice use and built-in tethering functionality, that will hopefully work in the future. Other than that, users will get auto WiFi login around hotspots, full parental controls over TV shows/App Store apps and even Bluetooth functionality, in case you’re a 2G iPod touch owners.

OS 3.0 Beta version for developers is now available in here. The other 3.0 firmware update for consumers will be launched in the summer, free of charge. Those who hold iPod Touch devices in their hands will have to pay the usual annoying fee (which stands at $9.95), to get the new version.

Update2: iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 was just released (for developers) and looks like we’re about to get the opportunity to use up to 11 home screens instead of the 9 screens limit on the current one. Additionally, Apple will finally add the push notifications feature in the upcoming version, so here’s a good reason to look forward for something.

Update3: You’ve guessed it right, the guys at QuickPwn have just kicked in with their latest release, which jailbreaks Apple’s OS 3.0 for free use. As always – at your risk – just to the following link, as download is available in here.

Transcend's New MP850 PMP Will Let You Flow With The Music

Transcend comes up with a new PMP device, to be available in 4GB (Ivory) or 8GB (Onyx Black) flavors, along with a bundled silicon cover, for those who highly concern about their player’s protection. Additionally, the new MP850 sports an FM radio, high quality voice recorder with VAD (Voice Activity Detection), 7 EQ, a real-time worldwide clock, and a tiny 1.8-inch 176 x 220 TFT-LCD screen, which means no quality video on airplanes, although the battery, which can play up to 22 hours of continuous playback, might be enough for a transatlantic flight – full of music. And speaking about music, this compact sized machine (81.5mm long x 41.5mm wide x 12.7mm deep) can easily handle MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM10, WAV audio files, JPG, BMP image files or MTV video files, in case you really want to make your eyes tired. Samsung's New Q2 PMP To Pack a Long Lasting Battery

Battery longevity is one of the hottest issues when we make decisions buying a new netbook or multimedia devices. That is why we were happy to learn Samsung has a new PMP, featuring 50  hours of audio playback for every charge you take. The new Q2, which is about to make a debut somewhere this year for a nondisclosure price, boasts a 2.4-inch QVGA display, along with an FM tuner, a built-in microphone and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, at your choice. Archos 5 Finally Gets The Snap-On TV Tuner Add-on

It’s been a while since Archos first introduced the “Internet Media Tablets” to the world and now, the French corp has finally released the Snap-On TV tuner add-on, which lets you watch live TV from your very own media tablet and record your favorite shows in DVD quality, once connected with the DVR features. The new TV adapter packs 2 antenna receivers in both sides and hooks to the bottom of your PMP device like any other external accessories, available for the Archos 5. Although you won’t be able to watch one channel while recording another, the idea of having a portable TV inside our pockets, should always make us excited, specially when the price stands at �60 ($76) and availability is only couple weeks away.

Sony Walkman NWZ-X1000 Series Gets Official Specs

We eagerly expect Sony’s new OLED walkman to be released, so we can have a chance playing with it and take an in-depth look inside. Until then, we’ll have to settle with the full specs that have emerged to the world by SonyStyle Hong Kong. According to the Asian store, the NWZ-X1000 players will include a 3-inch 432 x 240 OLED display, together with an FM tuner, WiFi b/g connection and internet browsing  with YouTube support. More in the list, a battery that delivers up to 33hrs of audio or 9hrs of video playback and wide range of supported formats, such as MP3, WMA, AAC-LC and WAV audio files, while in video we can mention MPEG-4, H.264, or WMV files. Still, no word about Stateside presence, but as previously reported it is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK, as the 16GB Sony Walkman NWZ-X1051 goes for £214 ($310) while the 32GB version, the Sony Walkman NWZ-X1061,will cost you £283 ($410).

Atree To Introduce The J2 "Red Eye" PMP For The Masses

Chinese company Atree has just introduced the J2, a 2.4-inch PMP with FM tuner, a microSDHC slot, a microphone and up to 16GB of storage to choose from. This new device, which is also known as the “Red Eye” supports most of the common formats and offers a battery that provides 38 hours of audio playback or 8 hours of video. Still no info about availability, but we do know it will be delivered in Blue, Pink and Yellow, priced at 70 euros for the top version.

Evergreen To Launch The DN-MP490 PMP For The Japanese Market

Although it carries an industrial name and not much info to share about, the new DN-MP490 PMP from Evergreen is a sleeky metal player, boasting a 4-inch 480 x 272 display, together with 2GB of internal memory, joining an SDHC expansion slot, in case you need more space. Regretfully, no HD content in this little guy, but many other codecs to run. The rest is pretty usual, with no price and no availability details to mention.

RAmos T10 PMP Comes With a 4.3" Touchscreen And 1080i HD Support

In a reasonable course of production, one should realize there will be a Ramos T10 PMP, specially after a miracle sequence of the T8 and the T9 players, already available out there. And while speaking, the Ramos T10 isn’t a stranger anymore, so you’ll be able to find it in some Asian corners, featuring a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, powerful DaVinci chipset and wide range of formats support, including 1080i HD files that will broadcast quality videos on your LCD TV. Basically, it looks and feels exactly the same, with those 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 display on top and rounded curvy shapes on sides. This one, however, comes with an RK2806 chipset inside,to run more formats and decode more videos.

Gemei Introduces The HD-660 To The Chinese Market

Those who live in the Asian part of the world might be interested to learn that Chinese company Gemei has a new PMP to introduce, coming up somewhere this year with a 4.3-inch 480 x 272 display, 32GB of internal storage and 720P HD quality support. This mid-range player is compatible with most common formats like MP3, WMA, FLAC audio files, RM, RMVB, AVI, FLV, MPEG video files and JPG, BMP, or PNG image files, but for a non-disclosure price you also get bundled a TV output cable and a remote control, to let you watch your high-def videos from the couch. Again, no specific release date to share at this point, although it shouldn’t be long until Nicolas Cage and the HD-660 will show up on the shelves.

Cenix Unveils The New S-300 Touchscreen PMP

Korean company Cenix, has just introduced its latest S-300 PMP, to be available with a 3-inch 800 X 480 touchscreen, an FM tuner, a built-in mic, e-book reader, 7EQ, microSD slot expansion and some playable games, in case you find yourself bored while heading to work. Supporting most of the common formats, you get to choose between black / white flavors, in either 4GB or 8GB storage capacities, priced at 148,000KRW ($96) and 176,000KRW ($114) respectively. Sadly, you’ll have to make all the way to Korea to get one of those cheap players for yourself.

Viliv S5 MID Gets The Unboxing Treatment

There’s a lot of buzz around the new S5 MID from Viliv, which boasts impressive specs in a small package. To be more specific, you get tons of top-notch features, including a 1.33GHz Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM, 60GB hard-drive, WiFi connection, integrated GPS navigation system and 1080p HD video support, adorned by a sleeky black 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen. Cowon D2+ Officially Goes Live (Update: Now In The US)

Cowon fanboys have been waiting to hear this one for quiet a while, as the Asian company gets official with the D2+ PMP, which is the newer version of the legendary D2 player. Although the latest version is set to be released in Korea only, we might expect global announcements in the future. Meanwhile, you should know the D2+ packs a 2.5-inch 320 × 240 touchscreen, along with an FM tuner, a microphone, SD / SDHC / MMC slot expansion, built-in DMB TV, USB 2.0 connectivity, a TV output and 4/8/16GB storage capacities to be compatible with MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, FLAC, APE, MPEG4 or WMV files. Still no pricing details but the battery keeps providing great longevity, offering 10 hours of video and 52 hours of audio playback. Trimble To Launch Yuma, an Atom-Based UMPC With Integrated GPS Technology

It’s a new day, It’s a new dawn and US-based company Trimble has a new UMPC device, which answers the name Yuma. This latest muscular unit sports a 7-inch sunlight readable touchscreen display, together with a surprising 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 32GB HDD storage, 2 integrated cameras, a built-in GPS system and a rugged outdoor design. Aside from that, the Yuma comes with ExpressCard/SDIO slot expansions and WiFi/Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, to let you handle your stuff perfectly on the go, as weight stands at merely 2.6 lb. No word on pricing, but shipment is set for April this year.

Philips Rolls Out GoGear Ariaz, Opus Media Players

Like there’s no recession, Philips launches two new GoGear PMPs for the European market, as the GoGear Ariaz sports a 2-inch display, together with a built-in mic, an FM tuner, and 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB of storage capacities at your choice. Additionally, it has four-pad buttons to help you navigate through the menus, while some other clickable buttons are considered to be working with Touch technology. The GoGear Opus, from the other side, is the bigger between the two, boasting a 2.8-inch display, a mic, Bluetooth, an FM tuner with RDS technology, 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB capacities to choose from and integrated BBC iPlayer support. Still no word when exactly these two are about to be released (probably somewhere in April), but getting them, you’ll have to shell out €79 ($100) or €179 ($230) respectively.

Update: Moments before a Stateside release, Philips releases more info, as the Aria goes for $80 (8GB) or $100 (16GB), while the Opus will be available for $100 (8GB) and a 16GB version in plans. The ViBE, which carries a 1.5-inch display will be yours for either $50 (4GB) or $60 (8GB).

Meizu M8 Apparently Gets Official In China

The “Never Ending Meizu Story” continues to make splashes around the globe, as we hear that Meizu’s M8 revolutionary/clone smartphone is making a debut in China nowadays, coming up with either 8GB ($348) or 16GB ($421) versions, a 3.4-inch 720 x 480 touchscreen, Windows CE 6.0-powered OS, Built-in 3.2MP Camera and wide range of codecs support, including MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg, FLAC, APE, AMR, MPEG-4, WMV, Divx, Xvid, H.264, or FLV. Battery wise, you can expect getting up to 21.5 hours of Audio and 7 hours of video, while using the M8 as a multimedia device. Otherwise it’s just another cellular unit, supporting WCDMA (3G), GSM EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 standards that will allow any user to speak all over the world. Mind you, according to Meizu, the 16GB model is currently “out of stock”, so stay tuned for more tales to be told.

Cowon L3 PMP-PND Device Officially Announced

We keep saying that media players future should hold GPS navigation systems, and apparantely Cowon thinks the same, as the Korean company officially announces the L3 PMP/PND release, without any pricing or availability details. Nevertheless, we do know the new L3 features 480MHz dual-core processor, a 7-inch 800 x 480 WVGA touchscreen, an FM tuner, 4GB of storage, 128MB of SDRAM and SD card slot. Naturally, this PMP-Navigation device includes a GPS system with Eco Drive module that indicates your fuel consumption on the go. Regretfully there’s no wifi inside, but you can still enjoy wide codecs support like MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV, OGG, AVI, ASF, and WMV files – all packed in 318g of solid sleek design.

Compal's New APA00/APA01 Media Players Support 1080i HD Video

Compal officially announces a new PMP series, including the APA00 (black) and APA01(white), which both feature a 7-inch 800 x 480 LCD touchscreen together with an ARM Sigma Design EM8622L SoC, DVB-T digital TV, FM Tuner, 802.11g WiFi, an SD/MMC slot and up to 80GB HDD storage. The two players house uCLinux system and can easily handle MPEG, Xvid, WMV9, H.264 files additional to the HD support up to 1080i. You also get USB 2.0 connection and component / composite TV outputs, to hook your multimedia junk and watch it from the couch. It’s been a month since we last talked about the new iStation T3 PMP from Digital Cube, and moments before a world wide release, we get a chance to look at some teasing images that make us drool all over the place. Although we’ve already expressed our reservations, this 4.3-inch 480 x 272 device has a pretty impressive design and Battery that provides up to 18 hours of audio playback or 10 hours of video. APSI's New M-480 PMP Boasts 3D Navigation Capabilities

Recent analysis shows that netbook devices have managed to push multimedia players out of public consensus, making them look dispensable in terms of video and internet usage. But technology is a dynamic thing and old-school PMPs might have a comeback, thanks to navigation capabilities that prove to be essential for many people nowadays. One of those players, that tries to make its way out is the M480 from APSI, which comes with a 4.8 inch 800 x 480 display, a 400 MHz OMAP2530 Dual Core processor, 30/60GB storage capacities and Windows CE 5.0 inside. It supports wide range of formats, including AVI, WMV, MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, AC3, ASF, SWF, JPG, BMP, TIF, RAW, CXB, ZIP, PDF, PPT, and houses a TV output, USB 2.0 connection and battery that can deliver up to 7 hours of audio playback or 5 hours of video. However, the aforementioned features won’t be enough if 3D navigation system wasn’t there, and thankfully the M480 does have one, once you add the GPS cradle at the bottom of the player, allowing to demonstrate real-time 3D maps as your cars advance forward to a preset destination. mobiBLU's T50 Touchscreen PMP Is an iPod Touch Wannabe

Korean company mobiBLU is about to launch a new media-players lineup and the first in the series is the T50 PMP, which packs a 2.6-inch 400 x 240 touchscreen, an FM tuner, a microphone and 4GB of internal memory storage. Although the new T50 is still unofficial, we couldn’t ignore the UI, which literally resembles another popular player – You’ve guessed it right – the iPod Touch. However, while Apple’s player sports a super fast multi-touch screen technology, the mobiBLU version comes with a haptic display, that makes it a bit sluggish, if you insist to compare between the two. Still no word on price or availability, but we do know the T50 will generously support MP3, WMA, Flac, AAC, APE audio formats.

Sony PSP 3000 Gets Four New Carnival Colors

For those who plan on getting a new shiny PSP 3000 console, hold on for a while, as Sony Japan has just announced 4 new carnival colors to hit the gaming device, starting March 5th. The new collection, which comes in Blue, Red, Yellow or Green flavors is expected to be priced at ¥19,800 ($225), but in case you wish to include 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a pouch, a wrist strap and a cloth in the bundle, it will cost you ¥24,800 ($279). In any case, both options pack a 2200mAh battery inside to your satisfaction, so it’s worth the waiting, specially if you’re tired of those boring black/silver hues.

Viliv To Introduce The New X70 Atom MID

Remember Viliv Vant X70 PMP that was first introduced at CES 2008? Turns out it has a new nephew (only recently introduced), coming with the name X70 Atom Communication MID. This stunning handheld features a 7-inch WSVGA touchscreen, a 1.33GHz Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM and Windows XP or Linux at your choice. The new portable MID offers 30GB / 60GB HDD capacities or 8GB / 16GB in case you prefer SSD flavor. Additionally, you get a USB port, a built-in mic, stereo speakers,  SD / SDHC card reader, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi connectivity and optional WiMAX / HSDPA capabilities. Regretfully, the X70 monster has no pricing or availability details but we do hope to get our hands on one of those devices ASAP.

Update1: The good guys at jkOnTheRun have managed to get their hands on this bad-boy MID, and taking their words, the X70 model is quite impressive and even more solid comparing to the S5 version, with a brilliant 7-inch, 1024 × 600 display through the integrated 3G module and the 32GB SSD storage. Sony Walkman NWZ-X1000 Sprouts Out With an OLED Touchscreen

We know, touchscreen players are the hottest thing around the block, and many companies are doing enormous efforts to take a share from Apple’s control over the market. Although it is unproclaimed, Sony has a great interest to confront the iPod Touch head-to head when it shows out its latest NWZ-X1000, a 3-inch OLED touchscreen Walkman player with WiFi capabilities and either 16GB ($299) or 32GB ($299) capacities to choose from – pretty much identical to the iPod Touch – heh. Additionally, the UI unveils sort of a “cover flow” feature to handle your music, while technologically the Japanese has finally integrated the noise cancelation element, in case you’re using a 13.5mm EX headphones. We’re still lack of any further details concerning other specs or availability, but meanwhile you can checkout the video after the break.

Update: Feb 25th – It is now available to order from Amazon UK, as shipment is set to 5 weeks. The 16GB Sony Walkman NWZ-X1051is priced at £214 ($310) while the 32GB version, the Sony Walkman NWZ-X1061,will set you back for £283 ($410).

Haier To Launch The Ibiza Theatre Touchscreen PMP

Haier really wants to have a footstep in the world of media players, where giants like Apple, iRiver, Cowon, Creative, Sony and Sandisk are dominating. To do so, there’s a need for consistency and we truly can see efforts coming from this direction, as the company has introduced the Ibiza Theatre, a 2.4-inch touchscreen PMP (320 x 240) with an integrated FM tuner, a microSD expansion, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, and either 8GB/16GB capacities to choose from. The removable battery can provide up to 30 hours of Audio playback and the player supports most of the common formats, so in case you’re looking for a low badget player, Ibiza Theatre will be offered somewhere around Q2 2009, at merely $109.99 for the 8GB version or $129.99 for the 16GB flavor.

Routon Introduces The P760 MID

CES 2009 is full of ultra-portable gadgets, offering new technologies to carry out our internet and multimedia libraries across the globe. One of those devices is the new P760 MID from Routon, which packs a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, together with a strong ARM11 processor and mobile capabilities (CDMA 1X/GSM/EDGE optional). iRiver P7 PMP Makes a Debut at CES 2009

iRiver likes to keep many of its announcements to the CES show in Vegas. This time, the Koreans are offering a glimpse at the new P7 PMP, a 4.3-inch media player with WQVGA (480 x 272) touchscreen, an FM tuner, a microphone, a microSD slot, 7EQ and either 4GB, 8GB or 16GB Flash storage memories to choose from. You get a wide range of multimedia support, along with SRS WOW HD audio enhancement and strong battery that provides up to 50 hours of continuous audio playback. Still no word on price or availability, but in addition to the P7, the Koreans has officially introduced the E50 and the E100 Season II players, which we’ve already discussed recently.
