Barnes & Noble Announces Nook HD and Nook HD+ Android Tablets

Hot on the heels of Amazon announcing plans to release the 8.9-Inch Kindle Fire HD, popular book retailer Barnes and Noble have just revealed their latest line of Android Ice Cream Nook tablets, the NOOK HD and NOOK HD+. This isn’t the first time the company has jumped the line with a NOOK. The last time was about a year ago, when Amazon officially announced its 7-inch Kindle Fire and B&N has replied with a slate of its own. Today, we are pretty much back in the same place for similar reasons.

And so without further ado, let’s dive into the nitty gritty details. The first in this family of tablets is the 7-inch  Nook HD. Weighing around 11.1 oz (319 grams), this nice gadget is available in Snow or Smoke colors and has a high-def 1440 x 900 screen resolution (243 ppi) for both 8GB and 16GB capacities which will run you $199 and $229, respectively. In addition, it boasts a 1.3GHz Dual-Core TI OMAP4470 processor under the hood, and likely to include 1GB of RAM, a tweaked version of Ice Cream Sandwich, and a microSD slot providing additional capability of memory storage expansion.

The second in that series, and the better model between the two, is the NOOK HD+ that sports many of the same specs, only slightly bigger and stronger, to improve its performance. The screen in here is a 9-inch Full HD display, with 1920×1280 resolution (256 ppi), and the CPU was upgraded from 1.3GHz to 1.5GHz dual-core processor. And while RAM remains the same at 1GB, the tablet offers 16GB of internal storage to start with ($269), and up to 32GB ($299) for the larger version. There’s also a micro USB port, and HDMI out function via an adapter.

Both devices are set to start shipping in late October, with B&N to give NOOK users easy access to its video-on-demand service, that houses many HD movies and TV shows for streaming and download.

Archos To announce New Generation Of 10S Netbooks, 9" Tablet PCs and Intel's Moorestone Platform Devices

Only a month after releasing its unattractive Archos 10 netbook model, the French corporation is looking forward, announcing a new generation of ultra-portable Mini PCs, which is expected to be released somewhere in April this year. The fresh Archos 10S lineup packs a 20mm chassis together with 3.5G functions, 1GB of RAM and up to 160GB hard drive. In addition to the 10S version, Archos plans to release in 2009 a 9-inch tablet PC with a virtual keyboard plus handwriting recognition feature that will join Intel’s Menlow-based Atom Z5xx processor and the 160GB HDD. Further more, Archos claims that both new portable computers will support high-def video playback, VOD and digital TV, while revolutionary 9″ tablet is said to have even more stronger edition, powered by Intel’s Moorestone MID platform that will presumably make a debut in 2010.

Update1: Archos officially rolls out the 10S  Mini PC and the 9-inch Tablet PC, both to be available somewhere this Fall.  The new 10S netbook will apparently include a 0.866’’ Ultra-thin chassis, packing a 10.2-inch display, an Intel ATOM 1.6 Ghz CPU with 1 GB of RAM, and 80GB hard disk storage.  Price wasn’t given up to this point but we’ve added a new image to the post.

Update2: First video of the Archos 10S is finally up, courtesy of Charbax. Hit the break to take a look.

CeBIT 2008: Asus Eee PC 9-inch Goes Live

Remember the rumors about the 9″ Eee PC? Turns out they were correct, as Asus reveals a 9-inches LCD Eee at the CeBIT show in Hannover. To be more accurate, it’s 8.9-inch but that is only a scrubby difference. The new Eee looks similar to the 7″ model, only it houses 8GB to 12GB storage size, equipped with a larger touchpad and jammed with a bigger picture. The Eee PC is expected to be released in the “middle” of 2008 for €399, and we are looking for more details to be delivered tomorrow at the press event.
