Galaxy Note 8.0 To Make US Debut on April 11th for $400

We have already talked about the Galaxy Note 8.0 announcement back in February, when Samsung has put out the official global media coverage. Some details were scarce, back then, but now we know it will finally get its U.S. release on April 11th for $400. The new mid-sized device, which is similar in spec to the original early model that was unveiled at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is driven by a 1.6 GHz Exynos 4 Quad ARM Cortex-A9 processor, and boasts an 8-inch 1280×800 pixels display, 2 GB of RAM, 5MP camera on the back, plus 1.3 MP up front, your choice of  16/32 GB of internal storage, as well as a 4,600 mAh battery pack, WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, and a microSD card for memory expansion. Finally, it is worth noting that Uncle Sam’s Galaxy Note 8 version is a wifi only slab, without the cellular access built in. Will you get yourself one? $400 per unit sounds like really a lot. The Galaxy Note 8.0 will be the first product to feature Samsung WatchON, a new search andrecommendation service that alleviates the chore of channel surfing and makes finding TV shows and ondemand video content faster and easier. Samsung WatchON simplifies the process of discovering newcontent to watch by searching across multiple content sources, such as live TV and streaming video-ondemand sources such as Samsung’s Media Hub*, to recommend movies and TV shows. It also providescomplementary content including actor bios, reviews and related information.

With the built-in IR blaster, the Galaxy Note 8.0 acts as a powerful universal remote, eliminating the needfor multiple remotes to control the TV viewing experience. Users can browse for content then change thechannel on the TV or cable box directly from the search window.

Samsung was obviously looking to build on the success it had with the Galaxy series (both mobile and tablets), and so the question we needed to ask was when rather than if the next Galaxy device, will be launched. Today the company officially announced the Galaxy Note 8, and finally confirmed our previous suspicions. No actual release date has been mentioned, only that the mid-sized slate will be globally available sometime in Q2. Other than that, we have learned that Sammy’s new slab is going to include an 8-inch 1,280 x 800 TFT display (189ppi), alongside a 1.6GHz Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor,  2GB of RAM, WiFi a/b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS navigation platform (with  GLONASS), your choice of 16GB or 32GB storage capacities, both expandable via microSD, and HSPA+ 21 (850/900/1900/2100MHz) network support.

In terms of look, the Android Jelly Bean Note 8.0 tablet measures only 8.3 x 5.4 x 0.31 inches, and sports a plastic covering, with a 4,600mAh battery under the hood. The system comes pre-loaded with all sorts of S Pen apps, running with added TouchWiz UX, and Smart Stay, Air View and Multi-Window support. There’ also an AllShare Play and Cast feature, along with those Popup video capabilities, e-reader functionality, and some 3rd-party bloatware such as Flipboard, and Awesome Note. Of course, you can use it as a living room companion, thanks to the integrated Smart Remote app and the inbuilt IR blaster, up on the right.
