Recent speculations, concerning Skype application on the PSP console are becoming reality. Sony announced the availability of Skype on PSP, at the end of this month. Once the new firmware is released and installed into the device, a small Skype icon will pop up in the network section and users will be able to login with their Skype account or create a new one. As other Skype users, PSP owners will have the privilege to talk freely with their Skype friends, make calls to any regular phone or receive calls on their PSP device. Mind you, this will work only on a PSP Slim devices.

This new formation requires a designated microphone, to enable users make or receive calls on their PSP. A Japanese website, Famitsu, unveiled a designed PSP mic, together with some presumably pictures of the new interface.

CES 2008: Sony Mylo 2 Goes Live Officially

After months of speculations, Sony unveiled the Mylo2 at the CES show. This cool mini PMP device is a portable wireless player with a neat QWERTY sliding keyboard that features WiFi internet surfing, Flash Lite 3 support (for youtube) and instant messaging communication. Other features include:

  • 3.5″ touchscreen (800×480).
  • Storage Size: 1GB.
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, AAC, ATRAC.
  • Video: MPEG-4.
  • Pictures: JPEG, transcode GIF, TIFF, PNG and BMP.
  • Features: 1.3 MP camera, mini USB, Skype support, instant messaging support (AIM, Yahoo, Gtalk), and more.
  • Widget: panels for YouTube, Google, Facebook and others.

    CES 2008: iRiver P20 PMP

    It seems like a very active year for iRiver. The company generates many of the news, coming out from the CES show direction. Their recent PMP announcement is the P20, a 4.1″ AMOLED screen with 16M colors. Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, FM tuner, DMB tuner, microphone, TV output, SD card slot USB host and 120/160GB of storage. The new gimmick in the P20 is the Spinn. It is an analog toggle wheel that uses the Spinn every turn, with the new interface.

    CES 2008: iRiver Homme Music Player

    Not much of information was released on this mini DAP, and It seems iRiver has an interest to keep details obscured, but one thing is certain, it is very thin and looks like a lighter. The iRiver Homme is equipped with a small display (under the cover), and two functional buttons on the top.

    Samsung P2 and T10 Get Blue Wave Firmware Update

    After long expectations, Samsung released the Blue Wave firmware update for its P2 and T10 PMPs. The awaited firmware features Bluetooth support that enables wireless file sharing with other Bluetooth supported devices. In addition, the new firmware allows Bluetooth phone integration, so you can handle your phone from the player. The recent update also improved the touchscreen respondency, the brightness adjustment, the album art and more.

    CES 2008: WowWee Rovio Can Explore From Any Place

    WowWee presented a new line of cool robots, at the CES show in Vegas. One of the most attracting robots within their line is the Rovio. This advanced surveillance machine is equipped with a multi functional WiFi webcam connection, allowing you to spy or surveil after your home or office remotely from any web accessible device, including your laptop, Archos 605, Cell phone, iPod Touch, PSP console and more. The Rovio is able to stream the video signals directly to your handling device and can interact audibly with people nearby. It even can coordinate its location accurately, thanks to a built-in navigation system. The Rovio will be available in summer time for $299. Cool!

    Pinnacle Video Transfer Device

    Pinnacle is about to unveil a new video transfer box, at CES 2008. This unit can transfer any analog video source directly to a USB 2.0 storage device, such as USB flash drives, iPods, PSP consoles or external hard drives with USB connectors. The box has a built in audio input, s-video/composite outs, and the transfer is recorded with H.264 video format. The device should go live somewhere around the middle of January, for 130$.

    Kojinsha L/V UMPC Series Announced

    It seems that many manufacturers got envy with the enormous success of the Asus Eee PC and wanted to have one of their own. The new UMPC series, from Kojinsha, is equipped with AMD Geode processor, 7″ 1024×600 resolution and a GPS navigation system. More info will be revealed at the CES show and I’m guessing we will see more of those during 2008.
