Reincomm has announced the release of the iriver NV Life, a new personal navigation device running WinCE 5.0 and sports multimedia capabilites. This 7-inch (800 x 480) Nav-PMP gadget features a SiRF Star III GPS system, an FM  transmitter, DMB TV (with PiP function), and SD slot to load maps into the unit. Focused on the “simple and easy” concept, the NV Life supports wide range of media codecs and available in 2GB ($367) or 4GB ($400) storage capacities. It has metal-sleeky design and endures buttons on the left side, for your convenience.

Sigmatek Unveils The New SHD-7100 PMP

Sigmatek introduces the new SHD-7100 PMP with a 4.3? WQVGA screen (480 × 272) and a lousy 1GB storage size. This player houses an SD card slot, an FM tuner, a built-in speaker, USB 2.0 and more. The SHD-7100 is compatible with MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AIFF, WMV9, JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG. The battery provides 10 hours of video and 15 hours of audio, measures are 127 x 77.9 x 11.8 mm. No word on price or availability but I honestly don’t see the 7100 able to compete with other PMPs as long as it provides only 1GB of storage, 1GB? c’mon, are you kidding me?

PS3 Firmware Update 2.20 Enables Full Blu-ray 2.0 Capabilities

sony-ps3The upcoming PS3 firmware update, will bring some substantial improvements to the game console. According to Sony, version 2.20, which is just days from launch, will feature Blu-ray spec 2.0 and BD-Live capabilities that include online downloading of video content, ringtones and interactive movies or audio. In addition, you will be able to copy to your PSP photos and music playlists via USB connection. The update will also add movies bookmarking function, so you can return back to the exact point and resume play from where you left off. Furthermore, “Audio Output Device” function will enable the PSP console to serve as a remote control for music played through the PS3. Check the full details after the break.

The guys at anythingbutipod.com have managed to put their hands on the iriver W7 media player, that was first introduced at the CES show in Vegas, last December. To recall, the W7 has a 3? touch screen with 260,000 colors (480 X 272) , providing 4GB/8GB storage capacity and mini SD slot. The player supports MP3, WMA audio files, WMV9 SP, MPEG-4 SP, H.264 video formats, JPEG, TXT/CSD e-books reader and more. Other features include FM radio tuner, sound recording and flash games support. It is a solid player with great features, but mostly designed for stylus interface junkies. Their first steps will probably take place with the purchase of a new 8GB Sansa Fuze player, as SanDisk intend to give the buyers a free microSD card, loaded with 55 DRM-free tracks from more than 50 new artists, including All Time Low, Ladytron, Magnet, Nada Surf, Of Montreal and The Coup. The cause is twofold, first reason is to attract music junkies to buy the new Fuze and second, is for promotional sake. In any case, we get 512MB microSD card, free of charge, and novice artists earn free exposure.

Polaroid is not just instant image cameras, or digital frames, it is also media players. The company introduces the new Freescape 4360 PMP (MPU-043315B), coming with a wide 4.3? TFT LCD (480 × 272) and 60GB storage size. This well-designed player houses a TV output, an FM tuner, USB 2.0 interface and more. It has a wireless WiFi 802.11 b/g connection and features a player-to-player sharing function. The Freescape is compatible with wide range of video and audio codecs, including MPEG4, WMV / MP3, WMA, WAV / JPEG and other known formats. The battery provides 16 hours of audio and 4 hours of video, measures are 22mm x 80mm x 144mm. No word on price or availability but it seems Polaroid is marching on the right path.

Creative To Release an X-FI Dock For iPods

Creative wants to extend its audio lineup, introducing the X30, an X-Fi dock, designed for the iPod players. The new device sports a remote control, an S-video or an AV-output to connect your player directly to the tele, an audio output to plug a pair of speakers, and a USB hub. Unfortunately, there are no further details, but one thing is sure, the X30 won’t support any bluetooth or wireless streaming. The dock is set to be released in Europe around April for €79 ($125).

Samsung Intros The New YP-S3 MP3 Player

The guys at Shiny Shiny have spotted another new mp3 player at the Samsung Showcase 2008. This time it’s the slim YP-S3, coming up in glowing white, blue, red and green hues, somewhere around June. The new YP-S3 features touch sensitive buttons, 2GB / 4GB or 8GB storage size, a 1.8-inch TFT LCD screen (which is a tad scrubby), an FM tuner, MP3 and WMA audio support, 30 hours of battery life and more. This weird multimedia device from MediaStreet houses a solar panel, allowing you to charge your player from the sun and play hours of video clips and gaming ROMs, including Super Mario Bros or Contra Force for Nintendo emulator and Raiden Triad or Street Fighter 2 for Sega. The eMotion Solar PMP features an SD slot, 2GB storage size, e-book reader with text-to-speech function, photo browsing, music and video player, supporting MP3, WMA or AVI. Not only the eMotion can charge itself, the built-in solar panels can be used as charging station for other electronic devices like iPods, but not for iPhones. Though it has a poor GUI, the Solar PMP might be a good bargain for merely $169.

Head To Head: Archos TV+ VS. Apple TV

The guys at Megawhat.tv have decided to make a comparison between the two leading multimedia boxes, the Archos TV+ and the Apple TV. This head to head video, examine both devices on different categories such as movies, photos, music, streaming, outputs, inputs, GUI and more. The results are not conclusive and pretty much let you decide for yourself, according to your personal needs and flavors. Personally i prefer Apple’s GUI but reluctant with their format limitations. On the other hand, i do like the Archos TV+ and the ability to connect any box into it, so for me the best would probably be – Archapple TV. Check out the video here.

This top-notch player packs a DMB-TV tuner with PIP function and WiBro technology (Korean version for WiMAX). In addition, it has a GPS system, a 2MP camera at the back along with a front VGA camera for video conferencing, a microphone, a USB host, Bluetooth 2.0, VoIP client, an MS Word doc viewer and more. This device  is compatible with wide range of video and audio codecs, including MP4, XviD, WMV, H.264, as well as MP3 and WMA. SanDisk Sansa Fuze Goes Live Officialy

Internet rumors prove themselves, as the SanDisk Sansa Fuze has just showed up on Amazon lists. The new PMP features a 1.9-inch display, a microSD/SDHC card slot, a microphone for voice recording, an FM tuner and a USB 2.0 connection. It will be compatible with video codecs as MPEG4, AVI, audio formats like MP3, WMA, and more. The built-in battery suppose to provide 24 hours of audio and 5 hours of video, as the measures stands at 55 x 38 x 15 mm. The Sansa Fuze is set to go live within one to three months in black, pink and red flavors, with a retail price of $99.99 for the 4GB version.

Update: The player will come in 2GB ($79.99), 4GB ($99.99), and 8GB ($129.99) versions, somewhere around April.

Maxian unveils the E900W PMP at the CeBIT show in Hannover. This new advanced device sports a wide 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen (800 x 480), 30GB storage size, SD/MMC card slot, 9 EQ and a USB 2.0 connection with ActiveSync support. CeBIT 2008: Hauppauge Unveils The New "pMP" Player With a TV Tuner

Hauppauge Digital unveils a new portable media player at the CeBIT show in Hannover. The new pMP (no mistake) comes with a 3.5? screen (320×240), SD/MMC slot, USB 2.0 port and an e-book reader. The well-known TV cards manufacturer brings its expertise to the player, adding a “double twin” TV tuner for Vista and Media Center, mobile Freeview TV reception, EPG and text functions. It is compatible with AVI, MPG, VOB, MPEG4, ASP, and DivX XviD 4.0/5.0 video files, MP3, WAV audio files and JPEG image files. Hauppauge claims the 200gm device can run up to 4 hours of video and will be available around April for €150. With a clean metal design, the new pMP might have a great potential, but c’mon Hauppauge, can’t you hire some talented designers? The machine looks like and old rusty transistor.

CeBIT 2008: Meizu M8 mini One Prototype Shows Up

After months of speculations, we finally can take a glimpse on the new Meizu M8 mini One. Although it is just an early prototype without any functional features, except the home screen, dialer and media player, we’re able to get a first impression and learn what to expect for. Suspiciously, The M8 looks similar to the iPhone, both from the outside and the inside GUI, it has a TV-output, 3 buttons downside and a touchscreen (not a multi-touch like the iphone’s). The final device will feature a Windows CE 6.0 OS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 3.4″ display (720 x 480), 3MP camera and many more. Meizu says the final hardware is complete and ready to be launched in China, somewhere around August.

Creative Zen 4GB/8GB Get a Price Cut

Creative wants to increase the competition, the company has decided to cut down the prices of the Zen 4GB and 8GB models, in order to place an alternative to the costly players, and when we say “costly” we refer to iPods. The 4GB model is now $99, and the 8GB model drops to $149. That’s an impressive move that might influence other manufacturers to go all the way down with their prices.

Firmware Update v1.1.4 For iPhone & iPod Touch Goes Live

Apple releases a new firmware update for the iPhone and the iPod Touch devices. Version 1.1.4 seems to be a “Bug fixer” and not the big and awaited SDK application. It is hard to spot  substantial changes, and we barely can find any visible modification, but those who had no patient, report no damages, even with a jailbroaken phones. My advice is to skip this one and wait for the “real deal”. If you can’t hold yourself, you can download the 162.1MB file via iTunes 7.6.1.9.

Sony Mylo 2 Gets a New Developement Kit For Widgets

Sony has finally learned the new global marketing rules, by deciding to follow the growing trend of third party widgets development for multimedia devices. The company announces, for the first time, a new online platform for all of you, enthusiastic developers, who want to contribute to the Mylo 2 widgets evolvement. Sony plans to give full access to technical data resources, in order to let developers build their own widgets and to expand the Mylo community, worldwide. The company expects to launch the platform around March, but we have already spotted some widgets on Sony’s website.

Not long ago, we’ve reported that Microsoft is developing new games for Zune players, via XNA Studio 3.0. Now, you have a chance to cast a glance on the flash version for Zauri. This spacecraft combat game demonstrates the flawless Zunepad usage, enabling smooth and pleasant gaming experience. iPod Video 5G Gets A Bluetooth Modification

Fifth generation 30GB iPod Video owners, who wish to add a Bluetooth connectivity to their players, can easily do so with ipodhackers step-by step tutorial. First thing you have to do is to disassemble the device, then integrate a Bluetooth module into it, remove the hard disk and replace it with a Compact Flash card. Microsoft Zune Gets Xbox 360 XNA Games

Microsoft inflames the masses, announcing games for Zune players, through XNA Studio 3.0. Although it is just an early announcement and most details are concealed, we know the games will be designed for both first and second Zune generation, with stress on trackpad capabilities in second-gen models. Zune owners will be able to play with their friends wirelessly, PSP style, though there are no plans for game sharing. XNA platform provides 2D graphics so don’t expect running Doom 3 or GTA IV on your Zune, but releasing a development kit might broaden the number of titles to offer. More details to be provided in Spring 2008.

Reigncom Introduces The Dicple D30 Multimedia Electronic Dictionary

Korean corporation, Reigncom, has released its new multimedia electronic dictionary lineup, housing 82 different dictionaries in one box. The Dicple D30 features a 4.3-inch LCD screen, SRS WOW HD speakers, T-DMB, FM radio, Micro SD slot, PDF and CSD viewer. There are two main models – The D30C for Chinese learning, and the D30E for educational purposes. Both versions include three storage sizes: 2GB($346), 4GB($367) or 8GB($367$, without DMB tuner), all available in Korea. We can’t be sure they will hit our shores but one thing is certain, those machines resemble to UMPCs, period.

MyRacer MF101 Gaming Device Is Forgettable

Korean company, MyRacer, introduced their latest portable gaming device, equipped with a 2.4-inch (320 x 240) display and a media player. Personally, i don’t think Sony has to be fearful for its PSP gaming consoles, but the MF101 does support AVI, MP3, WMA, WAV, JPEG and BMP. Additionally, it has 1GB internal flash memory, expandable SD slot and 2 keypads on both sides. The MF101 sports a flash interface and supports Adobe Flash-based games. The device is available in S.Korea for 104$.
