BenQ Rolls Out Joybook Lite U101 Netbook

Like we haven’t had enough, BenQ has just announced a new netbook, to join the overcrowded market, somewhere around the beginning of November. The new Joybook U101packs the usual specs, including a 10.1-inch 1024×600 display (an 8.9″ version is optional), a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, presumed 80GB storage capacity (still unofficial), built-in WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, 3G WWAN option and the obvious 3-cell battery. You will be able to choose between Windows XP or Linux, as we’re still waiting for prices to be published.

Dell's Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook Officially Goes Live

As promised, the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9 makes an official debut right on time, with a $349 starting price, for basic Ubunutu specs, which climbs up to $449 for the XP Edition version, or dramatically drops down to an imperceptible $99 bargain if you buy a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 machine from Dell, until 6AM September 9th (neat). Although there’s a minor change with the brand’s name, switching from the rumored “Dell Mini Inspiron 910” into the official Dell Inspiron Mini 9, the rest of the details pretty much stay the same, with an Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor, an 8.9-inch WSVGA TL screen (1024 x 600), 3-in-1 card reader, 512MB/1024MB DDR2 internal memory, three USB2.0 ports, RJ-45 Ethernet connection, VGA output, a 1.3M built-in webcam, 802.11g Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity and a flash SSD drive with storage capacities, ranged from 4GB up to 8GB (at the moment). Msi To Introduce The New 8.9" Wind U90 Netbook

Truth to tell, the new 8.9-inch ( 1,024 x 600) netbook version, first showed up back in June at the Computex show, but after having an enormous success with the 10-inch U100 model, Msi has finally decided to officially release the Wind U90, to be shipped with an Intel Atom N270 processor, 512MB or 1GB of RAM and 80GB storage capacity. In addition, the U90 will have a windows XP system, a built-in 1.3M camera, a microphone, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, 2 channels stereo speakers, VGA output and 3-cell battery (6-cell battery is optional). Still, no word on price or availability, but be sure this 2.2 lbs lappy will be here very soon.

Update1: turns out MSI has included the SUSE Linux OS within the new model, which will be available at the end of September for 339 Euro. The rest of the specs remain the same, including the keyboard size.

Update2: It seems like MSI is ready to deliver the Wind netbooks with a 6-cell battery onboard, offering longer battery life, for merely $550.

IFA 2008: Fujitsu Amilo Mini Netbook Is Now Official

Remember the Amilo Mini netbook from Fujitsu? turns out it becomes official, as the company has finally confirmed it at the IFA 2008 in Berlin. Although it looks a bit different from the others, with its unique interchangeable colorful lids, the new Amilo mini has pretty much the same features, including a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 8.9-inch WSVGA Display (1024 x 600), 1.3M camera, 1GB of RAM, 60GB or 80GB HDD storage capacity, WLAN 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth connectivity, and Windows XP Home Edition, running inside the 1 kg UMPC. It will be available in October for around €399 ($585).

IFA 2008: LG X110 Netbook Shows Up With Built-In 3G HSPDA Capabilities

LG has decided to jump into the netbooks trend, introducing the X110 UMPC at the IFA 2008 in Berlin, coming up with almost an identical MSI Wind design, but also with some pretty neat features, including built-in 3G HSPDA and GPS capabilities (optional) that can make our internet life much easier when it comes to out-of-wifi places. In addition, the new X110 packs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 8.9-inch display (1024×600), 120GB storage capacity (optional 6GB SSD), WLAN 802.11 b/g, 1GB of RAM and more. It runs Windows XP operating system and expected to be released in Europe at the end of September for €399 up to €499 ($590 up to $740), not so cheap prices, compared to the competitors, but with a top-notch technology.

Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 Officially Goes Live In Asia

Now it’s official. Fujitsu LifeBook U2010 has been released in Asia with a  5.6-inch WXGA display and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor. The new convertible UMPC is equipped with 4-cell extended battery (7.2V, 5800mAh), provides up to 8 hours of continuous work, and 60GB HDD capacity or an optional 64GB SSD storage. In addition, the minuscule laptop has a built-in fingerprint reader, a digital microphone and a 1.3M camera to conduct video conference calls via Skype. You can choose out of 5 different colors, including Ocean Black, Pink Gold, Cool Silver, Fuschia Red, or Luminous Blue and play wireless music in your car, thanks to the FM transmitter inside. So far, no official word on prices, but we do hope to learn more as soon as the Fujitsu U820 version, which was recently approved by the FCC, will make its debut Stateside.

Asus Eee PC S101 High-End Mini Laptop Introduced In Taiwan

Asus wants to target the ultra portable high-end laptops market, unofficialy introduces the new EEE PC S101, coming up with a 10.2-inch 16:9 LED backlit display, Intel Atom-based 1.6GHz N270 processor with 945GME chipset and a coffee brown and white flavors. The S101, which suppose to get mass production around September, weights less than 1KG and features only 2.2cm thick measures. Apparently, it will offer 32GB SSD ($699) or 64GB SSD ($899) storage capacities, together with a shiny casing surface, carrying the Eee logo. Stay tuned for more to come.

Lenovo To Release The New IdeaPad S10 Ultra-Mini Laptop

Another ultra-mini notebook joins the group, as Lenovo officially announces the release of the new IdeaPad S10, coming up Stateside in early October with a Windows XP operating system, Powered by Intel Atom processor, together with a 10-inch LED backlit display (1024 x 600). In addition, the new IdeaPad features an integrated multi-touch touchpad, a built-in 1.3M Camera, 4 in 1card Reader, Bluetooth, wireless 802.11 b/g connection and 3 cell / 6 cell battery, delivering 3 to 6 hours, respectively. Lenovo will be offering the S10 in different configurations, including a 512MB memory with 80GB storage capacity for $399 or a 1GB model with 160GB capacity for $450. You will be able to choose out of red black or white flavors and Lenovo promises to launch a 9-inch version with Linux OS aboard in other countries, later on. Fujitsu Amilo Mini Unofficially Introduced

Yes, another UMPC notebook joins the “gang”, this time it’s Fujitsu with the new Amilo Mini, coming up later this year with an 8.9-inch display and revolutionary interchangeable colorful lids. Apparently, it will run Windows Xp (there’s a special Windows key on the keyboard) and embrace Intel Atom processor to live with the mighty competitors. Asus Eee PC 900A 30GB Version Shows Up In Asia

Asus Eee PC 900 has a new 30GB storage capacity version, replacing some of the previous 12GB and 20GB models. All three versions include 1GB RAM, WLAN 802.11 B/G connectivity, MMC/SD/SDHC Card Reader, black or white colors at your choice and the usual 8.9 inch screen display. In addition, two of the models will run a Linux OS, as the third one will have the XP flavor. Mind you, these are not Atom based mini laptops, so it looks a little pricey to pay over $500 when you have the 901series.

Acer Wants To Compete With The Eee PC: Officially Introduces The New Aspire One Mini Laptop

After Asus, MSI, HP and Dell, there’s another player who wants to take part in the mini-laptop party, as Acer has introduced its new Aspire One notebook at Computex in Taipei. Nothing much to say, but we do know it will be equipped with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 8.9-inch LED-backlit display (1024 x 600), a built-in 1.3 MP camera, three USB 2.0, card reader slot, 802.11b/g and Ethernet connectivity. You will be able to choose between a Linux model with 8GB SSD storage capacity or a Windows XP model with 80GB hard drive. The Acer Aspire One will be available this month in white or blue flavors, for prices ranged from $400 (Linux version) up to $600 (XP version).

Update2: Turns out there is a problem, once playing music at maximum level through the speakers. According to several reports, a guy who played U2’s “Hold Me, Thrill Me…” at full sound, caused a vibration of the speakers which completely trashed the hard drive. The problems occurs only in hard drive devices but skips out in case you have SSD drives.

The competition is getting warmer, as MSI has officially released the MSI Wind specs, coming in 8.9-inch and 10-inch display versions, running XP or Linux operating systems. But the most alluring detail is the Intel-Atom-based processor, which set a new mini-laptops mark. Both models will be available on June 3rd with starting price of $399 up to $549. The new Wind runs Windows XP operation system and equipped with a 10-inch LED backlit display (1,024 x 600). In addition, the laptop features Intel atom 1.6 GHz processor, 80GB storage capacity, full keyboard, built in webcam, 3 in 1 card reader, and more. It has a nice sleeky whitish design and weights 1.2 kg. To get one of those, you will have to pull out of your wallet $470 up to $1,099, depends on the specs. Asus Eee PC 900 Gets an Inside Look

Asus Eee PC 900 is one of the most talkative objects you can hear about on recent weeks, along with the rumored iphone 3G. Today we have a chance to take a glance into the bowels of the great Eee 900 (which was officially released today in Taiwan), thanks to the guys at bit-tech who disassembled the laptop into pieces. Surprisingly, it pretty much looks the same as the Eee PC 700, except the mobile PCI-Express socket, coming with a 16GB SSD module, expanding the drive space, and a new location for the speakers at the base of the chassis. Asus Eee PC 900 Gets a Quick Video Review And deliveres the goods

Although it is not expected to be released with the new Intel Atom processor, the new Eee PC 900 looks very impressive, as the guys at pcmarket arranged a quick video preview of the mini laptop, showing its qualities, compared to the previous Eee PC 701 model. To recall, the new Eee 900 is equipped with an 8.9-inch screen, houses 12GB or 12GB storage capacities and has a large multi-touchpad. Hopefully it will arrive Stateside with the release of the Atom around June. Check out the video:

Update: Asus has confirmed that an Atom-based Eee PC is set to be released in June, along with a new Eee PC 10-inch model to be launched this year.

If you prefer your Asus Eee Pc, loaded with Windows XP version, you can get it without delay from Best Buy for $399.99, same price as the Linux model. Mind you, the new 7-inch stock is probably going to be snatched before summer time, so you’d better be hurry to order yours either in black or white flavors.

DreamBook Light Wants To Enter The Eee PC Party

Pioneer Computers Australia wants to be part of the ultra-portable banquet, ignited by the Asus Eee PC. The company introduced the DreamBook Light IL1, a compact laptop features 7″ LCD display (800 x 480), 1GHz Via C7-M processor, 1GB of RAM, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB flash storage or a 40GB HDD, Vista, XP or Ubuntu compatibility and more. WiFi connectivity is not included and the price is soaring to $446. More models are expected to be released in the future, equipped with stronger processors, bigger screen displays  and touchscreen functions.

Sony Vaio T Model Gets New Stylish Skin And Stronger CPU

Sony produced slim laptops long before Apple introduced the MacBook Air. One of those Sony’s impressive models is the Vaio T Type. The notebook featured 11.1″ panoramic screen (1,366 x 768), Core 2 Duo U7500 1.06GHz CPU, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, DVD-R drive, memory card reader, Bluetooth 2.0, fingerprint sensor, built in camera, 802.11a/b/g WiFi support and more. Now, after the Vaio T had lost its slimmest premier to the MacBook Air, Sony has decided to revive the line, adding a stronger Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2GHz CPU and a new stylish cover skin. No further details on pricing and availability.

Update: The new T series skins are selling for $1583 in Japan.

Asus Eee PC 9" Get Touchscreen

Following the enormous success of the Eee PC, Asus announced a new line, including 8/9/10 inch display. The most interesting model, should be the one with the 9 inch screen, as we hear it might be released with a touchscreen. Price is not going to be much higher than regular models, since adding a touch panel, is a matter of 15$ in the manufacturing cost.

Update: ASUS will not be offering a touchscreen panel, their market research shows limited demand.

Apple MacBook Air Mini-Processor Show Off

Miniaturization, is not an easy job. When Apple introduced the slim MacBook Air, last week, we noticed a slenderized design from the outside, but inside hardware had some major modifications as well. One of this interesting changes, came from the ultra mini Core 2 Duo processor figure. It is a combination of Intel 65 nanometer Merom architecture with an 800MHz bus, molded into a new, smaller chip package.

Asus Eee PC 8GB Goes Live

asus_eee_pcAsus Eee PC is already a huge success, it is small, attractive, very useful, and comes with a low price tag. Not only individuals are getting excited from this super mini Linux OS based device, but also educational institutes, who already ordered thousands of units.

Now Asus is telling us that the new Asus Eee PC model is going to be released in mid to late December, with even greater specs. The new Eee will have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage, with the same Intel 900MHz Celeron processor, and a 7-inch 800 x 480 LCD screen. Not to mention, this device has SD card slot, 2 USB ports, an extra USB, mic, headphone jack, a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port and supports 802.11b/g WiFi, as the previous model.

It is up to you to decide whether you want to double your storage size from 4GB to 8GB and have some extra 512MB of RAM for 499$ overall, a 100$ extra charge to the 399$ previous model price tag.
