Samsung Unveils an 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab Teaser

We’ve already heard a few tales about Samsung’s supposed 7-inch Galaxy Tab successor, that will likely arrive with an 8.9-inch touchpanel display, and the folks over at the South Korean corp have just turned up another interesting teaser. That includes a mysterious and dark image that seemingly confirms that Sammy’s slim and curvy forthcoming Tab will be announced on March 22nd, challenging the Apple  iPad 2 outstanding design and its 8.8mm thickness. Stay tuned! We’re only three weeks away.

Update: The guys over at PocketNow have managed to nab a few more details about the 8.9-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. The first thing you’d notice is that it looks very thin compared to Samsung’s previous models (only .33-inches thick and weighs 1.03 pounds). Second, the 8.9-inch display boasts a 1280×800-resolution, and likely to run Android Honeycomb platform on board. There was a sign with the caption “Live Panel” on top of it and another that said “Mini App” tray, or so. What could it be? stay tuned for plenty stuff more.

LG Optimus Pad Gets a $699 Price Tag Stateside (Update: $529.99 on Contract)

The 8.9-inch Optimus Pad has already gone official, but its final price was yet to be determined. Now, a New York based online store called MobileCity, has finally listed it for a $699.99 early pre-order, with availability details still missing from the board. And even though we’re not sure of the price, it would probably be very expensive and not worth the buy compared to Apple’s $499 iPad 2 for example. The truth is that LG has actually managed to come up with something fairly fresh, and stuffed inside some really cool specs, including NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 32GB of storage, a dual-camera array on the back with 3D video playback capabilities, and Google’s latest Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform preloaded on board. That been said, we’re still looking for that “prince charming” package, this durable and attractive device that will have us believe we can truly make the most out of it without spending so much dough.

Update: And if $700 is far too expensive for you to buy a Honeycomb tablet, fellow readers, there’s a new payment method that will set you back for $529.99 on a two-year contract (after a $100 mail-in-rebate). Wait a minute, is anyone convinced? A 2-year contract plus one time $530 fee? Ok, so it lets you record 3D videos, so what?  Maybe a wifi only version priced comparable to Ipad can do something – You hear that LG?

LG G-Slate With Dual Back Cameras (3D) Gets Detailed

LG is finally entering the Android tablet market in the US with the upcoming release of its latest and greatest 8.9-inch Android 3.0 G-Slate, which is based off of Google’s most anticipated Honeycomb platform, and consists of many high-end components including a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 32GB of internal flash storage, built-in gyroscope and accelerometer elements, WiFi, 3G HSPA+ network (over T-Mobile’s 4G infrastructure), adaptive lighting integration and HDMI out for 1080p video support. Definitely sounds good, but wait ’till you hear this – The front and rear cameras is essentially what distinguishes LG’s future tablet from other similar devices available in the market today and is a big bonus for someone shooting quite a lot of video conference chats or high quality images, instead. In short, The LG tablet will be one of the first to market with a stereoscopic rear-facing video cameras, capable of 3D 1080p capture, while there’s one on the back (overall there are two rear cameras) featuring a 5 megapixel camera plus LED flash capabilities, and another at 2 megapixel, which the Korean corp has placed up front. ASUS EeePad EP90 Tablet Pops Up In The Wild With Tegra 2 Inside

Remember this Asus Eeepad tablet lineup we’ve seen in Computex? Well folks, ​It looks like it’s going to take an 8.9-inch 1024×600 display, paired with a dual-core 1GHz processor and a Tegra 2 graphics to bring this one about. Though still unofficial, this 650g of sleek and sturdy body weight – supposedly called EeePad EP90 – is likely to house either 16 or 32GB of storage, while battery is said to deliver up to 6 hours of work. Other than that, and without knowing any price or availability details, it is not possible to say much more, but in general (whether it’d run Windows or Android platforms), you’ll probably get everything you expected, including an integrated webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, SD card reader, HDMI output and one single USB port. At this point we are still looking for a confirmation from the Taiwanese, and hope to stop back very soon and report.

RIM BlackBerry Tablet Rumored For Q4

Color us surprised, the boys at BGR report they’ve officially “confirmed with multiple sources” that RIM is about to join the trendy tablets sphere (around December) with a piece of their own, which will allegedly pack  an 8.9-inch screen (hopefully capacitive touchscreen), paired with WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity that will serve this “companion” slate when connected to your phone. Yes, it’s going to be one of those tablet machines that reside next to a mobile device, rather than having 3G capabilities ingrained – so things should be taken in the right proportions, despite the lack of substantial information at this point. Even though, it would definitely support media consuming platform that will grant you access to popular features such as e-books, web browsing, emails, photo viewing and more. ExoPC Atom N270 Tablet Makes it Out With Windows 7 Onboard

How much are you willing to pay for a brand new tablet, $400, $500, maybe $600 or seven hundred? In apple’s iPad case it may sound reasonable, but when it comes to ExoPC, a small company from France, we have our doubts. The last, as we hear, has recently gone official with an 8.9-inch Atom N270 CPU, paired with 2GB of RAM , 32GB of solid state drive, Windows 7 Premium (which means full browser support with flash) and slick rounded design (iPad anyone?). It also includes a multitouch display on top, 1.3MP webcam in front, wifi, Bluetooth, Ethernet 10/100, VGA output and 3 x USB ports – is that a netbook or what? Well, not if you count battery time – “only” four hours of work. Right now it’s available in prototype mode for a whopping $780 and non-multitouch screen, but prices will presumably drop down to $599 when this thing comes out sometime this March.

Update1: And just in case you were wondering what exactly happens inside the ExoPC bowels, hit the break and get a taste. You will find that Intel Atom N270 CPU, tucked with a 945 Express chipset, a Ene memory card controller and an open Mini PCI-Express slot. OH, and there’s also a big fan as you can see, to cool things around.

Update2: The guys at engadget were lucky enough to get a video of the ExoPC in action and from their initial impressions it seems to be responsive despite the “low-pressure” resistive touchscreen. Other than that, it looks pretty bulky in our humble opinion, but hey, it’s up to you to decide whether to shell $599 for this one or get Apple’s iPad for $100 less. Hit the break to see the video.

Update3: Looks like ExoPC has decided to wait just a few more months before going out with its most attractive 8.9-inch tablet. The purpose of this postpone is specs improvement, in order to match current components standards.

“With [CiaraTech’s] help we are improving the specs: better processor, graphics, better battery life, thinner, better screen and touch panel. We should hit FCC soon. As we have more time we are adding more features in the ExoPC UI Layer (ex. an app / media store).”

Update4: Turns out the ExoPC will not be available before September 7th of this year. In addition, the company plans to replace the old N270 processor with a new one, probably Intel’s Atom N450, along with a Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator, to improve 1080p video support. Stay tuned.

Update5: It seems the ExoPC final name will be the “Slate” and rumors claim it will be offered in four different flavors including 32GB WiFi, 32GB WiFi or 3G / GPS, and 64GB WiFi or + 3G / GPS. Check out the second hands-on video we’ve added after the break.

Aluratek's 8.9-inch Cinepal PMP Is Too Big To Be True

We’re not used to such big players, the kind that recently announced by Aluratek at the CES show in Vegas, but that’s probably the fun part of discovering new gadgets, isn’t it? Well, maybe, depends who you’re asking and how portable it is. This one, the 8.9-inch Cinepal media player, doesn’t look so handy, especially when it’s hard to determine whether it’s a digiframe, a tablet, a PMP or just an e-reader. The answer probably falls somewhere in between. Anyway, you can get it next month for $179, that will grant you 4GB of internal storage, together with an SD / SDHC expansion slot, a 6 hours of battery time and wide range of codecs compatibility, including DivX DRM, AVI, VOB, DAT, MPEG, H.264, MKV, MP3, WMA and JPEG files support. It would also run your 720p video files wherever you go, but frankly, we can’t imagine ourselves taking it for a journey or a quick short walk. PR stuff after the jump.

Asus To Announce The Release Of Netpal Netbook In Collaboration With Disney

Apparently, Asus wants your kids to get into the portable netbook world from early stages of their life, otherwise how can you explain the new project the company is launching in collaboration with Disney, which suppose to go live, for $350, somewhere this year under codename Netpal. In terms of specs, the netbook itself packs an 8.9-inch display, along with 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive (16GB SSD optional), 802.11 WiFi connection and “Princess Pink” or “Magic Blue” external colors at your choice. Additionally, the kids will get a friendly Disney interface, customizable Disney character themes, and other Disney widget apps to play around, with their parents fully in charge. Archos To Introduce The Archos 9 Windows 7 Powered Tablet PC

While technology world is at its first steps getting into the portable touchscreen era, French corporation Archos was always there first to come out with the most advanced and sophisticated media devices around, and as of now, it seems the company had done it again with yesterday’s interesting announcement of the Archos 9 Windows 7 tablet PC, which is literally a 16mm thick / 800gm of portable netbook device, made in the form of tablet unit that boasts an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen, along with Intel’s Atom Z515 processor, up to 120GB of storage capacity, 802.11b/g WiFi connection, built-in Bluetooth 2.1 antenna, integrated 1.3MP webcam, 10/100 Ethernet port, two stereo speakers, a microphone and even an optional 3.5G HSUPA WWAN support. Official release is scheduled for somewhere around September this year, while prices start at 450 Euros ($630) for basic version and up to 500 Euros ($705) for the premium models. Update1: Looks like UK fanboys will be able to nab the Archos 9, either with 80GB or 160GB capacities, for 449.99 Euros ($735) and 499.99 Euros ($815), respectively. Still no word from the French about official release dates, but we’re following.

Updatte2: And word just came in, the Archos 9 tablet is said to be released in October 22nd, concurrently with Windows 7, starting at $499.

Update3: Looks like Archos 9 is finally up for a pre-order. With an 8.9-inches display on top and Windows 7 Starter onboard, this $549.99 tablet machine is one awesome portable device that will let you exult and rock.

Update4: We’ve added another Archos 9 image, this time dissected, courtesy of the US FCC that has torn it apart before approving the North American debut.

Update5: Despite previous announcements, it looks like Archos 9 tablet PC is now due for release somewhere around the first quarter of 2010, instead of mid October 2009. We’re not sure what are the reasons for this delay, but guess you will have to take it for granted.

Update6: The good guys at UMPCPortal were lucky to get the Archos 9, a month before official debut, preloaded with a 60GB hard drive and Intel’s 1.1GHz Atom processor inside. Too bad it runs the Windows 7 starter edition which lacks those nifty tablet features you can use in the Premium and Ultimate versions. Nevertheless, checkout their unboxing video after the break.

Asus Eee PC T91 Will Support Multi-Touch Capabilities With Windows 7 Onboard

Remember the Eee PC T91 tablet netbook from Asus? Turns out it will support multi-touch handling with Windows 7 inside, as the Taiwanies officially unveiled full specs details of this cool swiveling machine, which includes an 8.9-inch touchscreen, together with Intel Atom Z520 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD. The cool thing about this one (as noted above) is that Asus will now have a capacitive touchscreen that will comply with multi-touch gestures, once installing Windows 7 inside, and if that’s not enough, the entire system will go for £449 ($684). Mio's Atom N890 Netbook Makes a Debut At Computex

Looks like GPS navigation giant, Mio is making its first steps at the overcrowded netbooks market with the new 8.9-inch N890, which packs Intel’s Atom N270 processor, along with a 3.5G module, integrated GPS system, Mio navigation software, an accelerometer for landscape mode (on a netbook?) and a revolutionary MagSafe power connector – all to be available in Q3 of this year for an undetermined price. Mobinnova Elan Netbook Machine Introduced, Comes With Nvidia Tegra Inside

So the new generation of netbook devices starts floating up at the Computex show in Taipei, with powerful HD video accelerators, the kind that easily can push 1080P movie files without choking around. And getting down to the details, one of the first alluring machines to show up in this category is the 8.9-inch Mobinnova élan, which houses the NVIDIA Tegra platform, along with WiFi / 3G connectivity and strong battery, providing up to 10 hours of use. Regretfully, we’re short of any further info regarding pricing or availability, but you can hit the jump, there’s a PR announcement, together with a Windows CE UI video, smoothly running on this unit. And with that kind of capabilities, imagine how Windows 7 will look like.

Asus Will End-Up 8.9" Netbooks Production In 2009

Rumors around the block state that Asus will be axing all 8.9-inch Eee PC netbooks in 2009. According to several reporters, Asustek’s president of Asia-Pacific division, Benson Lin, was quoted saying that the Taiwanese corporation has decided to continue in the path of 10-inches and 7-inches only, which means no more 8.9-inches for the masses. That makes us wonder why those two sizes – from one hand, the 10-inch version is so popular in terms of netbooks that Asus plans to sell 95% of this size at 2009, and from the other hand, the 7-inch version that has literally ignited the ultra-portable trend, is planned to take 5% of their sales, for 3G purposes and telecoms service operators use. In our opinion, Asus will have to comply with market needs and seems that we’re expected to see 12-inch devices in the near future, or even bigger, but it will surely exceed netbooks limits.

Msi To Introduce The New 8.9" Wind U90 Netbook

Truth to tell, the new 8.9-inch ( 1,024 x 600) netbook version, first showed up back in June at the Computex show, but after having an enormous success with the 10-inch U100 model, Msi has finally decided to officially release the Wind U90, to be shipped with an Intel Atom N270 processor, 512MB or 1GB of RAM and 80GB storage capacity. In addition, the U90 will have a windows XP system, a built-in 1.3M camera, a microphone, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, 2 channels stereo speakers, VGA output and 3-cell battery (6-cell battery is optional). Still, no word on price or availability, but be sure this 2.2 lbs lappy will be here very soon.

Update1: turns out MSI has included the SUSE Linux OS within the new model, which will be available at the end of September for 339 Euro. The rest of the specs remain the same, including the keyboard size.

Update2: It seems like MSI is ready to deliver the Wind netbooks with a 6-cell battery onboard, offering longer battery life, for merely $550.
