Troll Touch Brings The Touchscreen To Your iMac

Do you love your iMac ? Do you want to control it with your fingers? Turns out there’s a pretty neat solution that will turn it into a touchscreen unit, thanks to a company named Troll Touch who’ve created a DIY SlipCOVER kit that adds a finger-sensitive layer to the screen’s front panel, turning it into a nice useful user interface machine that can be used in kiosks, exhibitions, clinics or even in school. The user-installable kit comes in two configurations, matching both 20-inch or 24-inch aluminum iMacs. Once you buy it you have to install the touchscreen drivers and calibrate the screen for maximum accuracy. Regretfully, it doesn’t support MultiTouch gestures due to OS restrictions, but it’s still very usable, as you can see in the video after the break. Priced at $699 (20?) and $899 (24?), the SlipCOVER is not a cheap solution but definitely an efficient one.

Is This The New iPhone 3G?

I can’t be sure those images are real, but they sure look great, presenting the “so called” iphone 2. As you can see, the “new” 3G models come in 3 flavors, including white, black and reddish, something we’ve heard before. In addition, you can find the front built-in video cam, together with the rear one, implying for video conference capabilities. The only drawback is the “slim” slogan, which stands in contradiction to the latest rumors, pointing on a thicker device, due to GPS chipset add on. I guess I’ll have to wait couple more weeks to get an answer. Check the other images after the break.

Update: Apparently, this was not the iPhone 3G, just a good mockup. You can find the real iPhone 3G in here and here.

Asian Blogger Reviews a Fake iPhone VS. a Real iPhone – Can't Handle The Touchscreen With Her Fingernails

This is a very funny video of a popular Singaporean blogger, named Wendy Cheng, who’ve been tricked to review an iPhone device, turned to be a fake clone. Seems she preferred the counterfeit piece that has a stylus support rather than the real deal, but she has a point stating the male designers should consider female needs. As for the results – real iphone gets only mediocre grade and a “fucking shitty” touchscreen, while the fake device gets a “not bad for a shitass China phone”.

Griffin ClearBoost Case Boosts Your iPhone Antenna – Kind Of

This new ClearBoost case from Griffin, has a built-in booster antenna that enhance the wireless signal and sends it to the iPhone internal antenna, so you can get a better wifi connection to enlarge service areas, surf the net and get emails via your handset. In addition, it provides hard-shell protection for the iPhone, keeping it unscratched from top to bottom. Mind you, recent reviews state that the “signal boost works only under certain conditions” and “does not appear to improve iPhone performance under weakest signal conditions“. However, in some cases, the ClearBoost “deliver—improved cellular antenna performance…” and “can help stabilize shaky data and cell phone audio conditions when iPhone is in 2-3 bar range“. In any case, the Griffin ClearBoost is a worth trying accessory, priced at merely $35.

David Beckham Gets a Golden 32GB iPod Touch

To celebrate his 100th appearance for England national soccer team, during last week’s friendly match against France, Becks’ teammates has decided to reward him with a nice gilded 32GB iPod Touch, engraved with his name, title and the national team symbol. I’m not so sure this fancy memorabilia is going to become one of Apple’s standard products, but if it does, it will cost you around $1190 (£600), which is fair enough, considering a signed one will probably fetch you at least $3000 on Ebay.

Apple’s iPhone SDK

For months we’ve been hearing tons of speculations about it, but today, we finally get a chance to look at Apple’s long-awaited iPhone SDK pack and stand on this exciting developer kit essence. Based on OS X Xcode source code, Cupertino will provide iPhone developers the same API and developing tools, used by Apple, including Cocoa Touch app framework, 3-axis accelerometer, access to an interface builder – providing drag n’ drop structuring of the GUI and automated power management, location enabled app, 3D graphics accelerators, full access to media capabilities and to the iPhone simulator, in order to experiment and run the developing application on OS X.

CeBIT 2008: iPhone To Get a GPS Navigation System Via iGO MyWay 8

Nav N’ Go introduces its latest iGO MyWay 8 application, designed to provide GPS navigation services for the iPhone or the iPod Touch devices. The shown prototype is compatible with turn by turn directions and location tracking function, thanks to the built-in WiFi connection and the small GPS receiver, plugged to the dock connector. Only thing left, is for Apple to be kind enough to open the handset for 3rd party developers – hopefully today at the SDK event. Check the videos after the break.

CeBIT 2008: Meizu M8 mini One Prototype Shows Up

After months of speculations, we finally can take a glimpse on the new Meizu M8 mini One. Although it is just an early prototype without any functional features, except the home screen, dialer and media player, we’re able to get a first impression and learn what to expect for. Suspiciously, The M8 looks similar to the iPhone, both from the outside and the inside GUI, it has a TV-output, 3 buttons downside and a touchscreen (not a multi-touch like the iphone’s). The final device will feature a Windows CE 6.0 OS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 3.4″ display (720 x 480), 3MP camera and many more. Meizu says the final hardware is complete and ready to be launched in China, somewhere around August.
