Compaq Airlife 100 With 10.1-Inch Touchscreen and Android OS Platform Introduced

We’ve already seen a glimpse of Compaq’s latest and greatest Airlife 100 netbook machine, last month at Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, but now it finally seems to get official with all the pride and glory involved. Within, you’ll find a nice 10.1-inch touchscreen display, which stunningly works in collaboration with the Android OS, preloaded inside the box. And to make things even better, under this tiny smartbook  lid you’ll find a strong Snapdragon chip, paired with Intel’s latest Atom processor, 16GB SSD, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connection mode – offered in partnership with Telefonica for an undetermined price as a subsidized mobile broadband deal, in Europe, Latin America and hopefully some other places across the world. Stay tuned.

Update1: Battery wise, this bad boy will boast a powerful package, which suppose to provide 12-hour of continuous work or up to 10 days in standby.

Update2: The good guys at Engadget have managed to catch up with HP for a video tour of this intriguing Snapdragon powered netbook. Check it out after the break.

Update3: Not much happened since we first met HP’s Android-powered Airlife 100 netbook, back at the MWC conference in Barcelona. That said, it seems the 10-incher netbook has now turned official on HP’s website, packed with a non-capacitive touchscreen, which hides underneath a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor along WiFi, 3G connectivity, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of flash. We’re still waiting for price and availability details to finally show up.

Update4: Looks like the Android-powered Compaq Airlife 100 will be exclusively available through Telefonica Movistar this coming May with base price of 229 euros for the mini laptop itself, and another 48 euros for a monthly internet package. Expensive?

Fusion Garage's 12.1-inch JooJoo Tablet Introduced, Suppose To Replace The Uncompleted Crunchpad

Still clashing off court (and soon probably on court) with TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington about their former mutual Crunchpad adventure, which apparently imploded few days ago, Fusion Garage ostentatiously sends a “business as usual” message to whom it may concern,with its yesterday’s official introduction of the JooJoo ( means “magic”), a 12.1-inch tablet which suppose to be released instead of the Crunchpad and presumably to include a capacitive 12.1-inch touchscreen, bounded by a clean slick frame that hides underneath a 4GB SSD, together with a WiFi, an accelerometer, a 5 hours battery, a video adapter with “enough graphic power to deliver full HD video” and various ports relay on both sides. The 2.4 pounds grayish machine suppose to run a UNIX-based OS that loads up in 9 seconds, while mother company, Fusion, is claimed to start accepting  pre-orders on December 11 – three days from now – carrying a price tag of $499. Update2: The JooJoo is now available for pre-orders at $499, as Fusion Garage adds a $30 dock (the one in the picture) to its accessories lineup. Specs wise, we get to hear it’d probably house either Intel’s Atom Z530 or GMA500 processors, consider that 1080p video support the tablet smoothly plays. Shipping is set to begin “within 8-10 weeks”, although we have our doubts, now that Arrington’s legal action against FusionGarage shifts to Federal court.

Update3: And, as expected, Michael Arrington sues Fusion Garage over the JooJoo-Crunchpad situation, alleging false advertising, breach of fiduciary duty, misappropriation of business ideas, fraud, and unlawful business practices. Update4: Looks like JooJoo’s shipping will delayed to March 25 due to the tablet’s capacitive screen manufacturing issues. To compensate those who already pre-ordered a piece of this wonder, Fusion Garage will give away that $30 kick stand you see in the picture.

Update5: Apparently, Fusion Garage has finally started to ship JooJoo tablets to happy customers who already pre-ordered one from its website, and suppose to receive the tablet somewhere around March 29th.

Toshiba's 7-inch JournE Multimedia Tablet Unveiled

While Apple’s rumored tablet Mac is still on the prep and Arrington’s Crunchpad PC tablet doesn’t take off yet, it’s the Japanese giant Toshiba which steps up these days and catches the big tech headlines, around its latest impressive 7-inch tablet unit, that was first introduced at the IFA trading show in Berlin, yesterday morning. Naturally, like all tablet devices, Toshiba’s JournE multimedia machine is no different, with its sharp and wide touchscreen display, that packs underneath an SD slot expansion that seats right next to 1GB of internal storage (poor), an ARM4 processor, a 802.11b/g WiFi antenna, a 3.5mm headphone jack and even an HDMI connecting port which up-scales 1080p high-def movies with the  bundled dock station you get. Still in a prototype stage, the 14mm thick frame can easily handle all common codecs files available in the market, such as H.264, DivX, and WMV, but will also run some of the most popular online multimedia services like Flickr, Youtube, Picasa, Facebook and others. However, if that’s not enough, Microsoft’s Windows CE 6.0 Pro that runs the entire operation inside, is also provided with many of the OS goodies, including Explorer browser, MSN Messenger, internal video player and many more. Additionally, for those who prefer the non-finger usage, a stylus pen will be added as well, when this thing goes out to the market, somewhere in Q4 this year. Update: Apparently Toshiba’s JournE Multimedia tablet is claimed to include VoIP and ebook apps that will be available for downloading via a future app store, which the company planes to open. Additionally, Toshiba’s mysterious online store is also reported to be offering featured music albums and wide range of movie hits – all priced competitively. Stay tuned for more to come.

First Crunchpad Tablet PC Images Go Live

First, we’d like to send our regards and appreciation to Michael Arrington from TechCrunch for turning this $200 Crunchpad Tablet PC project – viable, with a great dedication and a true desire to assist the tech scene by releasing a low price tablet device for internet purposes mainly, but for other uses as well, thanks to the 12-inch touchscreen, built-in speakers, integrated camera / microphone and some other goodies that are still hidden. Although the upcoming machine will probably cost a bit higher than expected (around $299), it sure looks awesome and we do hope to have our hands on it, once this project is finished. Meanwhile, you’ll have to settle with the new images that popped out in the wild.

Update: While still waiting for Crunchpad devices to go live, Seesmic’s general manager, Loic Lemeur, was sniffing around TechCrunch offices, giving the unboxing treatment to a first and nearly finalized prototype of the tablet, which suppose to be available hopefully “this year”. Update2: And if the outside look wasn’t enough, we’ve just added another video, courtesy of TechCrunch, featuring a preliminary sneak peek into Crunchpad’s fresh UI. Hit the break to see the full video.

Update3: Singapore newspaper, The Straits Times, says that Arrington’s Crunchpad tablet is expected to be out by November of this year, including a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, together with 1GB of RAM, a USB hub, a built-in WiFi, 3G connectivity and and a SIM slot – priced around $400. Stay tuned for the official announcement.

Update4: Looks like Arringtone’s Crunchpad  won’t make it out eventually, due to major disputes with Fusion Garage (Arrington’s main partner on the project), that wanted to cut TechCrunch out of the project and continue with it on their own. This highly anticipated tablet machine was actually suppose to go out on November 20th of this year, but will probably end up in court with “multiple lawsuits” about to be filed from both sides. Either it’s the definitive end or just a milestone in Arringtone’s pretentious project, time would tell. Meanwhile, you can read the full story right here.
