SmartQ T7 and T7-3G Android Based Tablets Introduced

What’s this? Another Android tablets? Yes, and you’re going to see a plenty of them coming out in the next couple of months, plenty. The latest news in this hot and highly evolving category comes from Chinese manufacturer SmartQ, that seems to have two brand new android 2.1 tablets to offer for local merchants. First one in this series is the SmartQ T7, which comes equipped with a fast 720MHz processor, along a 7-inch 800×600 touchscreen display, a WiFi connectivity and 4,700mAh battery – all priced for ¥1,480 (about $220) in Asian markets. The second one, the T7-3G, which boasts pretty much the same impressive components that basic T7 model would offer, adds a cellular connection to its line of features and said to be valued at ¥1,880 (about $280) for the EVDO version and ¥1,980 (about $29o) for the WCDMA style. Both flavors are said to come out later this year, with no hint for western distribution in the foreseeable future, but with nice range of HD video files support.

Velocity Micro’s 7-Inch Android Powered Cruz Tablet Announced

Velocity Micro has just announced a new tablets lineup, powered by Google’s all-mighty android OS platform. Coming this August, the first device planned to go live is called the Cruz Reader. Now, whether it’s just an eReader or a whole new tablet machine – it’s up to you guys to decide – the mother company (as you can watch in the video after the break)  is apparently taking the reader side, flavored by tablet features . This way or another, for prices range between $149 to $299, you should all expect getting yourself a real nice reader-tablet hybrid combination, packing a 16:9 7-inch capacitive touchscreen on top, and USB port, paired with SD card slot, 4GB of internal storage and 802.11b/g wifi support (with full browser capabilities) under the lid. Cowon’s New V5W PMP Gets a WiFi Connectivity Upgrade

Korean audio giant Cowon has just relaunched its good ‘ol V5 media player, this time in the form of a V5W PMP. And while most specs remain the same – a 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, running Windows CE 6.0 with one HDMI output, one USB 2.0 slot and 16/32/64GB storage capacities at your choice –  that little “W” letter tabbed to the name, apparently represents the new WiFi connection capabilities the company has added to its frame. Regretfully, both price and availability are yet to be determined at this stage, but just to give you a sense of direction, you guys should be ready to spend somewhere around 250 bucks if you want the V5W so bad.

ezGear SurfBoard 700 Hops on the Android Tablets Bandwagon

Tablets, tablets, tablets…that’s probably what you’ve all been hearing about in the past six month, haven’t you? If so, ezGear – a US based company – personally wants you to hear about their brand new Android-power tablet as well. From what we know, their latest revelation, Surfboard 700, which has no price tag or availability details to share at this point, will pack a RockChip’s RK2818 chipset, together with a 7-inch WVGA touchscreen, WiFi, 2MP camera, an HDMI output, a microSD card slot, USB 2.0 hub and dual stereo speakers onboard. And while inner Android OS version is yet to be determined (either Android 1.6 or hopefully Froyo 2.2), the battery pack that comes along with the slate, is claimed to deliver up to 20hrs of music playback or 9hrs of video- pretty cool, isn;t it? Now c’mon ezGear, give us a good price to satisfy our not-so-deep pockets, and we’re sold.

Update: Apparently, ezGear will start shipping somewhere around September of this year.

Acer Aspire One D255 Netbook Introduced, Intel’s Latest Dual-Core Atom N550 CPU Included

It wasn’t that long ago when we all read and saw Acer’s revamped netbooks lineup popping out at Computex in the form of the Aspire One D260. And given the fact nothing has changed dramatically since then, the new and recently announced version, Aspire One D255, is not much of a difference. And while most specs seem pretty much the same (1GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive and six-cell battery), the processor itself was slightly upgraded to Intel’s new dual-core Atom N550 CPU, as the external design has apparently received some minor changes around the chassis, leaving both the chrome flavor and glass splitter elements out of the room. Still no word about price and availability at this point, so stay tuned until they arrive.

Update1: And just in case you were curious to learn more about the new D255 netbook, mind you a 6-cell battery device, running both Android and XP flavors inside will cost you NT$11,900 (about $375) when this thing goes live sometime this summer.

Update2: The good guys at NetbookNews have managed to put their hands on one of Acer’s early dual-booting (Android 2.1 and Windows XP) Aspire One D255 versions, and  were kind enough to share their long in-depth video with us, right after the break.

Update3: The latest official and unofficial news indicate that Acer is likely to continue carrying forward its most aggressive pricing strategy by offering its most recent 10.1-inch D255 netbook at no cost – only 329.99 US Dollars. Competitive pricetag, isn’t it? Well, consider the latest and greatest hardware addition which comes in the form of Intel’s Atom N550 dual-core processor, we can definitely say so. ASUS Eee PC 1015, 1016 and 1018 Netbooks are Set and Ready To Go Out This Coming August

Remember ASUS’s next generation Eee PC netbooks lineup which we first saw on CeBIT back in February? Well, turns out they’re already out of “prep” mode and finally ready to make it out to the market. These three models we speak about are the Eee PC 1015, 1016 and 1018, as the first one, the 1015 model – that doesn’t have any price or availability details yet – is said to go live later this year, while the other two, 1016 and 1018 – both coated with a nice sort of a metal brush cover – are rumored to arrive the US market somewhere around August, as the 1018P is going to cost you $429.99, and in exchange will offer a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor, along 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and three USB 3.0 ports. The third in the group is the 1016P, which will set you back for $499.99 that will buy you that same Atom N455 processor, this time tucked with 2GB of memory and 320GB of storage. HP Mini 110 and 210 netbooks To Receive Atom N455 and N475 CPUs

HP is bolstering its Mini netbooks lineup today with a slew of revamped Mini 110 and Mini 210 ultra portable versions. Both devices are expected to go on sale these days as prices start at $280 and climb up to $330, respectively, while the inside part of the pack unveils Intel’s N455 or N475 Atom CPUs, at your choice, which add even more processing power to your lappies and DDR3 memory support, for extra $25 on top of basic prices. Other components remain pretty much the same.

Cisco Cius Android Tablet Announced, Aims To Take Over The Growing Business Market

Network giant Cisco just announced a new business oriented tablet called Cius. Basically, it’s a 7-inch (800×600 touchscreen resolution) tablet which apparently runs a Google Android OS inside and packs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, along some other cool components, including a 32GB of internal storage, a battery with up to 8-hour of working time, Wi-Fi, 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, one micro-USB port and last but not least, a 720p front-facing HD camera, supporting 5MP at 30 frames per second. Apple: 1.7 Million iPhone 4 Devices Sold So Far

The hottest news of the day: Apple is reporting that 1.7 million iphone 4 devices already sold in last three days, since official debut. That’s pretty impressive if you have a moment to think about it. And needless to say, a new world record. Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs said:

“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

Texas Instruments Blaze tablet To Officially Go Live this August

Despite having little information at the moment, Texas Instrument’s new revelation, also known as the Blaze, is one of many devices that were recently mentioned to hit the trendy overcrowded tablets pond, in coming months – and make no mistakes, it’s surely going to be good. And getting down to the nitty gritty things, this 10.4-inch XVGA touchscreen slate runs a 1GHz OMAP4430 CPU and is scheduled to go live with two USB ports, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, and a GPS navigation system, somewhere around August. But that’s not all, because TI’s Blaze will also offer its owners some very cool features, thanks to revolutionary multiple external camera modules, and external DLP pico-projector support. Regretfully it’s too early to determine quality compared to pricing, as prices are yet to be determined.

Apple iOS 4 Jailbreak Now Available For iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G Devices with RedSn0w

So now that Apple’s iOS 4 is officially out, it was just a matter of time until Dev Team guys will eventually jailbroken it and make this platform even more available for everyone out there, especially those with iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G devices, who generally seem to be left out in Cupertino’s cold (3GS phones are not compatible with this one). At your own risk, simply download redsn0w 0.9.5 beta and start the installation process right away. Once finished, you can finally begin unlocking your mobile handheld, for baseband between 04.26.08 and 05.13.04, using Ultrasn0w 0.9.3 from the Cydia store. Be careful there, eh? If you need more help, just follow these step-by-step instructions on twittown.com.

Update: PwnageTool 4.0 has just been released as well, so you can now jailbreak your iPhone 3GS devices, in case they have the old bootrom installed, along with previous models like iPhone 3G versions and 2nd gen iPod Touch players. Once again, careful there.

Toshiba’s 10.1-Inch AC100 Smartbook is All About The Android

Toshiba is coming on strong lately with all sorts of awesomely great netbook devices. And while most models still run a Microsoft Windows OS inside, the latest, AC100 Smartbook, is said to include an Android 2.1 for a change. The Japanese are probably the first to enjoy this bad boy, somewhere around August, as prices start at ¥40,000 and climb up to ¥50,000 or $440 to $550, respectively. In exchange for the money, Toshiba has stuffed a very interesting lineup inside, which apparently includes a 10.1-inch 1,024 x 600 pixels LED backlight displayed, paired with a 32GB SSD, 512MB of DDR2 memory, a 1.3mp webcam, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, an HDMI output to pump vids on your tele, and last but not least, a fairly strong 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 250 processor, to make your 1080p content run stutter free. Software wise, you get a built in Opera Mobile browser to surf the web, a dedicated Toshiba media player, and Documents to Go, that lets you edit any MS Office docs, via Google’s android OS. Toshiba Libretto W100 Dual-Touchscreen Netbook Introduced, Still a Prototype

Still a concept, so please withhold all excitement until it gets live (hopefully in couple of months), and try not to be hard on yourself, will you? After all, we’ve already seen some cool dual-screen tablets/netbooks/laptops showing up in the past, – so the idea, in general, is well known. But that, as a fact, apparently didn’t stop Toshiba from creating its own device, the Libretto W100, which boasts a dual 7-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreens, housing a 1.2GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 port, MicroSD card slot and and of course, Windows 7 Home Premium for the OS. It’s small, very small, only 7.95” (W) x 4.84”(D) x 1.2”(H) of size and 1.8 lbs of weight. Battery wise, you get the 8-cell pack, that suppose to deliver great longevity, as you run Toshiba’s in-house software that includes  Bulletin Board, ReelTime™ and the PC Health Monitor. The suspense – It’s not going to be cheap at all, with prices rumored to start at $1,099 and climb up with the specs. NEC’s LifeTouch Android Tablet Sprouts Out In The Wild

So there’s not really much to say about NEC and its new seven-inch LifeTouch Android tablet, besides the fact it boasts an ARM Cortex A8 processor, runs an Android 2.1 OS under the lid and scheduled for release in Japan somewhere around October. Apparently, the new slate supports both landscape and portrait view (in case you’d like to read some e-books)  and said to arrive fully customized, mainly for enterprise purposes. Apple iPhone 4 is Now Available For Pre-Orders (Update: Sold Out)

Well, hello there! Looks like the iPhone 4 is now up and ready for your pre-orders on Apple’s website. Actually it’s only the black version at the moment, while whitish flavor is set for later this month. Prices are at $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) in the US (with a 2 years contract), while Britons can get their own piece of mobile craft – SIM FREE – for £499 (16GB) or £599 (32GB). Only two pieces per customer.

Update1: Apparently, Canadian users will be able to buy a SIM FREE iPhone as well, from carriers like Rogers, Bell, or Telus. Way to go Apple!

Update2: And after Apple’s unsteady servers collapsed, turns out that iPhone 4 pre-orders are sold out! both in Apple and AT&T. Next shipping is scheduled for July 2. Here’s AT&T’s official statement:

“Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We’ll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24.”

Update3: Apple says that white iPhone 4 devices won’t be available until second half of July due to “proven more challenging to manufacture than expected.” Here’s the official statement:

Asus Eee PC 1201K To Get an AMD Geode CPU Flavor

Is that a trend or what? A second Asus AMD-powered netbook announced in a matter of one single week. The latest, called Eee PC 1201K, is said to run an AMD Geode NX 1750 processor paired with a SiS 741GX/966L chipset. Basically it’s a 12.1-inch mini laptop device, housing a 1GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, multi-card reader, an integrated 0.3mp webcam and surprise-surprise – a Windows XP inside, really? anyway, price or availability are yet to be determined.

Packard Bell Dot S4 netbook Pops Up in the Boot-Shaped Land

It’s been a while since we’ve last heard anything from Packard Bell in regards to netbooks, but despite that, the brand has grown substantially in recent months and today it gets another new member to the oh-so-beautiful group. The culprit, also known as the DOT S4, doesn’t have any official word about price or availability, but even so, boasts a 10.1-inch display along Intel’s Atom N450 processor, up to 2GB of RAM, 160/250GB hard drive and GMA 3150 for the graphics. Acer Aspire One D260 Netbook Officially Announced, Gets Atom N455 and Optional 3G Capabilities (Update: Now Official)

Acer is refreshing its netbooks lineup, with the introduction of Aspire One D260, which apparently takes some new design cues, and also introduces Intel’s latest Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, along a 200-nit 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display, 2GB of RAM, optional 3G/UMTS quadband connection and GMA 3150 for the graphics. That’s probably the latest greatest piece of craft from Acer, and as you can see it looks really impressive. And while internal OS platform is still unknown, other components include three USB 2.0 ports, VGA and audio outputs, a card reader, 160GB or 250GB storage capacities at your choice, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and 6-cell battery, delivering up to 8 hours of work. ASUS 10.1-Inch Eee PC 1015T Shows Up in Computex with AMD V105 Processor

Oh, what do we have here? Another 10.1-inch netbook? Well, it’s not just another one, because this boy, Asus Eee PC 1015T, apparently packs an AMD V105 processor inside and a relatively strong ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU for the graphics. And whether it looks similar to the Eee PC 1015P/PE or not, it sports a really impressive specs lineup, including up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 250/320/500GB storage capacities to choose from, 802.11b/n WiFi plus Bluetooth 3.0,  Windows 7 Started edition, a 6-cell battery and even a pair of  USB 3.0 ports. iPhone 4 Officially Announced, Due Out June 24th For $199 With 3.5-Inch Retina Display, FaceTime Video Chat And OS4

Apple has just introduced its brand new iPhone 4 at the WWDC 2010 event in San Francisco, CA, with CEO Steve Jobs telling the open-eared crowd “Now, stop me if you’ve already seen this” and adding “This is one of the most beautiful designs you’ve ever seen.” But we’ve already seen it before, due to recent unpleasant leaks, and all that left is for Cupertino to finally make things official.

Basically, the new iPhone 4 is firmly constructed from a stainless steel band, used for structural support and works as dual-antenna, while both front and back are coated with real glass cover. The screen is sized at 3.5-inch, with 960 x 640 points of high resolution (x4 more) and 1:800 contrast ratio – Apple calls it “Retina Display” for its super-sharp display, boasting 326 pixels per inch. The good news is that Apple has apparently added that strong A4 processor it first planted inside the iPad, into the new iPhone. Despite its 9.3mm thick, Apple has somehow managed to stuff up the iPhone 4 with a pretty impressive battery which can literally deliver 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, and up to 300 hours of standby – did we say impressive already? Connectivity wise, you get a 802.11n WiFi, paired with Bluetooth and equipped with GPS capabilities.

Beyond that, one of the things that is talked about a great deal  is the FaceTime video calls feature that Apple has finally tossed into the four-gen iPhone, with future plans to make it an open industry standard. In general, there are two different cameras onboard – the rear one, is at 5 megapixel with a backside illuminated sensor, x5 digital zoom, and a LED flash, featuring 720p HD video recording at 30FPS (Portrait or landscape), while the second is a front facing camera that lets you conduct smooth video calls through your iPhone – the suspense – it can only be made over wifi networks at the moment. At that note we should mention Apple’s new iMovie app that gives any iPhone user the opportunity to edit his/her video content without the need to leave your mobile device in favor of your desktop platform. iMovie is said to be available at the App Store right away for a small $4.99 price tag.

As expected, the new phone is going to run on Apple’s latest OS4 (AKA: iPhone OS 4) that includes all the good stuff we’ve already written about, such as folders, multi-tasking, iBook, iAds and more.

Other than that, the iPhone 4 also houses a microSD slot and a a three-axis gyroscope.

The new iPhone will be available in June 24th, both in white and black flavors, running for $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB), with Pre-orders start a week from tomorrow in 5 countries: US, France, Germany, UK, Japan, and 18 more following in July. Archos 5 Internet Tablet Now Supports OpenGL Thanks to 2.0.15 Update

While Archos 5 Internet Tablet isn’t our first choice when it comes to tablets, due to various reasons like the sluggish UI, resistive touchscreen and closed OS, it is quiet a good alternative that works well for some. And to make it work even better – especially if you’re into portable gaming gadgets – the French company has just released an Archos’ 2.0.15 update that turns the so-so Android 1.6 tablet into a real cool gaming machine that supports OpenGL and makes games like Speed Forge 3D and Raging Thunder II look really good and playable. ZTE 4-Inch V7 MID Gets The Hands-On Treatment

The days surrounding big trade shows are always exciting for tech lovers, especially those  of us who like running into small and neat companies, that create cool gadgets you probably won’t hear about on a daily basis. One of them, that apparently showed up on Computex 2010, is ZTE and its pretty awesome V7 MID, which boasts a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen and runs Maemo for the OS. It has a nice QWERTY keyboard attached under the display and the CPU is an 806MHz Marvell PXA310. Other than that, this tiny little wonder (4.7 x 3.3 x 0.5 inches) packs the full connectivity package,like 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and even GPS capabilities, while other components include a 3.2 megapixels camera, SD card slot and a microUSB port. ASUS 10-inch EPad Tablet Surfaces in Computex 2010

Asus is really getting us confused. It wasn’t so long ago when we wrote a post, reporting about the new EEE tablets lineup the company is expected to launch shortly, with new models like 12-inch Eee Pad EP121 and the 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC. So far so good, right? Wrong! Because the guys at jkkmobile have just spotted (in Computex 2010) yet another model which suspiciously looks pretty similar to the EP101TC, this time carrying an “EPad” title written on a placard, up front. Now, whether it’s the same tablet or not, this “new” revelation houses a 10-inch capacitive display, running Windows 7 for the OS and probably, just probably NVIDIA Tegra 2 under the coat. The CPU is clearly from Intel, however we can’t be sure what other internal parts this bad boy will boast. For the meantime, make sure you check out the hands-on video after the jump.

Kno Dual-Screen Tablet Breaks Cover at D8

It’s not the first time we get to see a slick and not so slimy dual-screen device emerging from the shadows, MSI has already released one a few months back and Microsoft is also rumored to have at least one on the prep – but today, boys and girls, it’s all about Kno and its neat dual 14.1-inch capacitive screens tablet (1440 x 900 screen resolution), that is said to be powered by a Linux operating system, running sort of a Webkit UI on top. In general, this 5.5 pounds giant comes equipped with e-book reader capabilities, and packs a 7 hours battery, along 16GB of storage and a Tegra 2 chip for the graphics (impressive!). It’s suppose to target worldwide students with passion to gadgets and technology and expected to be priced “under $1000” range. Availability, is yet to be determined, though. Samsung’s Android-Powered Galaxy Tab Unveiled

In general, there is not much information available about Samsung’s future tablets lineup, which apparently includes the S-Pad and the Galaxy, both are said to run Android OS inside, as the 7-inch Galaxy Tab is believed to be featuring Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of the platform, while the S-Pad is said to have both WiFi and 3G data connectivity on board. Stay tuned!

Update1: Rumors keep floating around, suggesting Samsung is about to release three different Galaxy Tab flavors in three different sizes: the 7-inch model, planned for August of this year, while 8-inch and 10-inch version are slated for holidays season.

Update2: There’s even more, according to Tinh te, Samsung’s 7-inch Tab will probably include an Android 2.2 inside, while CPU, Cortex A8, is said to run at a 1.2GHz speed clock. Besides that, it will also have 16GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD, and powered by a 4,000 mAh battery. As for the name itself, rumors claim that Samsung will call it “Galaxy Tape”.

Update3: Of course, the existence of a viable Samsung Tab can only be proven by a video, and we’ve just added one, so check it out after the break. It has some sort of a dialer, a DIALER?

Update4: As more details start sprouting out, we now hear that Samsung’s 7-inch Tab is going to boast a 3.2 megapixels webcam, along WiFi and 3G data compatibility, with a standard SIM slot.

Update5: We now hear that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab should be out to the world somewhere in Q3 of 2010.

LG UX10 tablet Makes First Appearance at Computex 2010

Details scarce at the moment, but this is definitely an exciting time to join the tablets parade, and LG is one of the many companies that currently seek to do so. Need a proof? Check out its latest LG UX10, which undoubtedly belong to this burgeoning category, with that 10.1-inch LED capacitive touchscreen (not very responsive at the moment), featuring an Intel Atom Z530 processor under the lid, tucked with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, an SD card slot, a micro-HDMI output, 1.3mp camera and Windows 7 Home Premium for the OS – yes, it runs a Microsoft platform inside. Price and availability are yet to be determined, but a short hands-on video is right after the break.

iPhone 4G Chassis and Body Spotted in the Wild Streets of Portugal

Another day, another iPhone 4G update, this time coming from Portugal (yes, Portugal), as the techie guys from iPhone Portgual have managed to obtain some iPhone 4G parts, which apparently include an aluminum chassis mold and a silver body case – both said to be acquired from china for a non-disclosure price. Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to authenticate this leak at the moment, and the possibility of it being a fake job is still there. MSI WindPad 100 And 110 Spoted Live n Kickin’ at Computex 2010

It’s been a long time since we’ve last seen a real MSI tablet in action, but that (as a fact) doesn’t necessarily mean the Chinese corp has stopped manufacturing. On the contrary, it has just introduced two of its brand new 10-inch tablets at the Computex show in Taipei. The first model, WindPad 110, is powered by an Android 2.1 OS, and seems to be capable of handling high-def content pretty well, thanks to NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor on board. The touchscreen is capacitive and very responsive if you wondered, and the chassis itself includes a USB port and video output as well. The tablet will sell for $399 by the end of this year.

Heading to the second version, the WindPad 100 (which we’ve already seen a while ago), this one runs a Windows 7 Premium platform, while specs wise, it packs a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM, 32GB SSD, two USB ports, an HDMI output, built-in webcam and finally, a special Wind Touch UI which MSI has literally stuffed on top of Microsoft’s coat. The WinPad 100 is set for release later this year for about $499 – hundred dollars more.

Update: Now official. Prices are at $399 for the U110 and $499 for the U100. Availability is yet to be determined.

ASUS 12-inch and 10-Inch Eee Pads Now Official, Win 7 And Intel CULV CPU Onboard (Update: Eee Pad EP101TC)

We have previously reported a rumor about a future Asus Eee Pad devices, and today the rumor starts floating again, apparently becomes official. Basically, there seem to be at least two different models of this coming slate – a 12-inch tablet (AKA: EP121), boasting Intel’s Core 2 Duo CULV processors and running a Windows 7 platform for the OS, that is paired with a 10-hour battery pack, one integrated USB 2.0 hub and built-in webcam, while second version, the EP101TC, is a 10-inch capacitive tablet running Windows Embedded Compact 7 platform for the OS and some sort of a Tegra chipset for graphics handling. Both versions are said to have optional docking cradle for keyboard use with Q1, 2011 as a target release and prices ranged between $399 to $499 at most. Update: Word on the street is that Asus has apparently ditched the idea of having a Windows Embedded Compact 7 OS onboard in favor of Google’s Android platform – either Froyo or Gingerbread (Android 3.0), we still don’t know. As a matter of fact, it appears that the Taiwanese company is currently working on few updated prototypes that should eventually run Mountain View’s operating system onboard, whenever out, next year, at Computex 2011.

Lenovo To Replace Linux Skylight OS With Android In Future Devices

Color us unsurprised, but it’s still notable to hear that Lenovo is stopping investment in its OS capability to support the Skylight smartbook and U1 Hybrid devices, we’ve first seen at CES, and instead seek to replace it (the sluggish Linux Skylight OS) with a far-faster Google Android one. In a written statement, the company says it has shelved the Skylight smartbook for the time being and refers to the U1 hybrid as a concept.  Who said that Apple’s magical iPad is not a game changer, who?

After careful consideration of market conditions and user feedback, Lenovo has decided to focus its resources on building a family of next-generation mobile internet devices based upon open technologies such as (but not limited to) the Android kernel, similar to the Lenovo smartphone, which is available for sale in China now.

As a result of Lenovo’s strategic shift towards open standards such as an Android kernel based environment, the Company has shelved its plans to release the initial version of the Skylight smartbook that featured a proprietary Linux-based OS.

Lenovo remains committed to working with our strategic partners to deliver innovative products in the growing mobile internet space, including the aforementioned smartphones and smartbooks, as well as exploring innovative new concepts that continue to “push-the-envelope” like the U1 hybrid PC.

Shogo 10-inch Linux tablet Pops Up Of Freescale HQ In Toulouse

You may have heard about France based company, Realease, and its 10.2-inch kitchen tablet QOOQ, when it was first introduced back in 2009. At first, it seemed as if the French guys were mainly aiming to improve and extend your professional cuisine capabilities, but now it looks like they want to reach some other basic segments. The latest from this company is Shogo, a 10-inch multitouch (capacitive) Linux tablet, offering two Freescale CPU models, the basic i.MX37 and the faster i.MX51, both of which to share rooms with a built-in camera, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, microphone and dual headphone jacks, while operated under a Linux (sluggish) webkit browser for the OS. Samsung’s NB30 Pro Netbook Officially Announced

Samsung rolls out an updated version of their popular NB30 netbook, that includes more powerful components and a few cosmetic changes over its predecessor. The new boy, known as the NB Pro, boasts that same Atom N450 processor inside, paired with a basic 10.1-inch 1024×600 display, up to 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, Intel GMA 3150 for the graphics, Windows 7 Professional Edition and a battery pack, claimed to deliver up to 6.5 hours of continuous work. It will run for $519 (expensive!) once available, somewhere towards the end of next month.

Well folks, it’s May 28th,  and you all probably know what it means, don’t you?  For those who still haven’t heard, then it’s a good time to learn that Apple’s iPad is finally getting official internationally. The magical wonder will initially debut in 9 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK (which apparently had their early launch yesterday), while Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore will get their stocks somewhere in July. Dell’s 5-Inch Streak Gets Official, Due Out June 4

Dell has just gone official with its captivating 5-inch Streak (AKA: Mini 5), which is set for release on June 4th in the UK, and is expected to hit the rest of Europe sometime after, with US debut to take place only later this summer. First and foremost it’s a tablet with everything you could want, including a gorgeous 800 x 480 multitouch display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 16GB of integrated memory (expandable up to 32GB more through a microSD slot), a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, Android 1.6 for the OS and Dell’s customized UI layer, sitting on top. And despite Dell’s best efforts to keep us thinking it is “the ultimate portable tablet pc” that you will ever need on-the-go, in practice it’s also an HSDPA 7.2Mbps / HSUPA 5.76 Mbps smartphone that can easily dial-in and dial-out your phone calls, in case you’re using either UMTS 900/2100 & UMTS 850/1900/2100 or GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 networks. Sony VAIO W Netbook Gets a Fashionable Billabong Design

Isn’t she a beauty? That’s probably the first thing crossing your mind right now, looking at Sony’s Billabong inspired VAIO W netbook, that was recently announced over in Australia and due out next month for a whopping AU$749 ( about $620) price tag. It is expensive for a 10.1-inch (1,366 x 768) netbook, paired with a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N470, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter and an integrated Intel GPU,  if you get to think about it, but hey! that’s exactly what arts and crafts were made for, isn’t it? And frankly, Sony’s engineers have already proven their worth in the industry, so whether you’d pay for a Sony-Billabong partnership or not, it’s really up to you to decide – We are just sharing our crazy wish list here. As of today, a Stateside availability is still unknown.

MSI’s Wind U160DX Netbook Unveiled, Gets a Better CPU And 15 Hours Of Battery Life

The MSI U160 netbook is hear for quiet sometime already, but it never seemed too sure to invest in getting set up with it for the long run. Nevertheless, the company now says it wants even more, and given the fact the U160 boasts some top-notch specs within, its daring mission (to release an updated version) wasn’t exactly simple at all. But words lead to deeds, and a new model is looming on the horizon – It’s the Wind U160DX – which is said to officially go live on Computex 2010 with a stronger Atom N455 processor, paired with MSI’s “Turbo Drive Engine” technology, DDR3 RAM and the cherry on the cake – a 15 hour battery work. eviGroup’s 5-Inch Wallet MID Officially Live, Offering Either Android 1.5 Or Chrome OS Platforms at Your Choice

Now that eviGroup has already launched a 10-inch tablet and marked the posts in this hot-and-trendy category, it’s time for the French corp to finally move forward and break another cover – this time across the MID world. The latest culprit, is a five-inch, 800 x 480 resistive touchscreen device, powered by a strong 667MHz Samsung ARM processor which regretfully runs the old Android 1.5 platform, but offers the ability to upgrade to Chrome OS for €20 more. Other than that, for €199 (around $245) you’ll also receive a built-in mic, a car kit package, six hours battery, an integrated speaker, 1GB of internal storage, and microSD slot expansion. ASUS Eee PC 1215 Netbook Breaks Cover Boasting Ion Graphics and Dual USB 3.0 Hubs

The Eee PC 1201PN is a relatively new netbook from Asus sporting the new Intel Atom N450 processor, paired with a 12.1-inch 1366×768 display and Nvidia’s Ion 2 graphics platform onboard. However, while this specific model lacked the discrete Optimus switching gear that enables users to easily jump between Intel and Nvidia cards, and by doing so, save some precious battery life on the go, a newer version – the Eee PC 1215 – that does everything the former one did, and even more, is said to support Nvidia’s Optimus feature and let you choose between those two graphics modes. Still with no price or availability dates to share at this point, the latest 1215 netbook also packs a dual-core Atom D510 processor, tucked with a pair of audio jacks, Ethernet, SD card slot, HDMI output, a bigger trackpad surface to flip around, and a nice matte cover lid that will hopefully reject any fingerprints, smudges and other kind of nasty spots. And if that wasn’t enough, check this out – the Taiwanese giant has also added a couple of blue speedy USB 3.0 ports, placed on the right side of the box – Huzzah! Update1: Looks like the Eee PC 1215N has just turned official with all the good and powerful things inside. Apparently, it would run a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor that has no troubles handling NVIDIA’s Ion discrete graphics on that 12-inch 1,366 x 768 display the netbook boasts. Another iPod Touch Prototype With 2 Megapixel Camera Shows Up In The Wild

We already know that future iPod Touch devices, powered by a two-megapixel camera, are planned to come out later this summer – that’s not a secret anymore – a few of them, marked as “design verification test” versions have previously appeared on eBay auctions, one month before. But given the fact those random prototype photos were too misty and blurry to convince, a concrete evidence, the kind that would eventually make us believe this rumor is real rather than a hoax, was desperately needed. Luckily, the good Vietnamese guys from Tinhte (same guys that got exclusive footage of Apple’s iPhone 4G), somehow miraculously managed to get their hands on Cupertino’s presumable third-gen player,  and were kind enough to fill us in with some of the details, suggesting it would pack up to 64GB of flash storage, paired with that rear 2mp camera, placed right next to an illuminated sensor backside. Regretfully we are unable to officially confirm any of these images at this stage, however, you gotta admit – they look real, especially in that tangible video, right after the break.

ASUS EeePC 1015P and 1015PE Sprout Out Officially, Deliver Up To 13.5 Hours Of Battery Work

It’s all about battery life and longevity these days, especially when it comes to laptops and portable media devices. And Asus, more than anyone else in this industry, seems to understand it pretty well, otherwise, how can you explain these two 10.1-inch netbooks, EeePC 1015P and 1015PE, that recently announced with Pine Trail CPUs inside along with a massive 6-cell 63Wh battery pack delivering up to 13.5 hours of continuous work – now that’s a lot, isn’t it? Besides that, you get the usual components you’d probably expect to find in any other powerful netbooks available in the pond, including two gigs of RAM, 160GB to 320GB capacities to choose from, Windows 7 for the OS, WiFi, Bluetooth, built-in webcam and finally, Atom N450 processors. On that note, you should know that the difference between the two versions is essentially cosmetic. Price and availability are yet to be determined though.

RIM BlackBerry Tablet Rumored For Q4

Color us surprised, the boys at BGR report they’ve officially “confirmed with multiple sources” that RIM is about to join the trendy tablets sphere (around December) with a piece of their own, which will allegedly pack  an 8.9-inch screen (hopefully capacitive touchscreen), paired with WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity that will serve this “companion” slate when connected to your phone. Yes, it’s going to be one of those tablet machines that reside next to a mobile device, rather than having 3G capabilities ingrained – so things should be taken in the right proportions, despite the lack of substantial information at this point. Even though, it would definitely support media consuming platform that will grant you access to popular features such as e-books, web browsing, emails, photo viewing and more. Another iPhone 4G Prototype Pops Up In Vietnam, Gets Dissected and Filmed On Video

Another day, another Apple’s fourth-gen iPhone spotted in the wild, this time by the Vietnamese guys from Taoviet.com who’ve managed to purchase a prototype of Cupertino’s future device on the black market for a whopping $4,000. And while Gizmodo’s acquired phone had no capacity numbers behind its back, besides the “XXX” caption, this one, on the other hand, indicates a 16GB of internal storage, housing the usual “Bonfire” testing interface, instead of Apple’s coming OS 4 platform – what a pity. Other than that, it apparently packs the same line of hardware (minus the two external screws) we’ve already seen before with a micro SIM slot stuffed to the right side of the box and these dual silver volume buttons placed to the left, while rear and front-face cameras adorn this “magical” bad boy as well, providing a clear evidence to support future arguments about authentication. Update1: The guys at Chipworks claim that the “339S0084” serial number etched on top of the big chip (the one with Apple’s logo) found in Cupertino’s next-gen iPhone during last teardown session, is actually THE Apple A4 chip, fabricated by Samsung as a result of Apple’s design acquisitions of PA Semi and Intrinsity. And if that allegation should be taken seriously, it means that Apple’s fourth generation iPhone will share the same micro-processing capabilities you can find inside the iPad – huzzah!

Google Tablet Is Rumored To Go Out Sometime This Year Via Verizon

Details scarce at the moment, but the way it looks, it seems that Google’s plan to have its own personal Android tablet has taken few giant steps forward  if World Street Journal’s sources are to be taken at face value. And even though we’re still lack of any concrete information about viable name, look, prices or even availability, an increased competition between Apple and Google in the tablets arena is presumably inevitable, and might render the relationship between the two companies somewhat more acrimonious. In any case, according to recent WSJ report, Verizon’s CEO said that his company is seeking for a tablet and that their working on something with Google:

“We’re looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.”
