Asus To Launch a Sharper and More Powerful MeMo Pad 7 Tablet

Asus-Memo-Pad-7-Android-4-4-2014

IFA in Berlin is just around the corner and Taiwanese electronic giant, Asus is already gunning for everyone else with a new iteration of the popular Memo Pad 7. First and foremost, I have to admit that I personally own this one particular device myself, and truly love it. However, while the former model was featuring less pixels at 1280 x 800 screen and a relatively sluggish ARM Cortex-A7 processor under the lid, the latter excels in all relevant hardware specifications, from the new 1.83GHz quad-core Z3560 Intel Atom chip onboard to the super stunning 7-inch display with 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution and 323 ppi.

The new Memo Pad 7 measures in at just 8.3 millimeters and weighing only 269 grams. The Android 4.4  KitKat tablet, which comes loaded with the ZenUI interface and is known as model number ME572C/CL, said to be equipped with 2GB of RAM, your choice of  16GB or 32GB of internal storage, optional 4G LTE wireless connectivity, and a MicroSD card adapter for extra memory if needed. In addition the upcoming slate, which is expected to go on sale “in the next few weeks” in the UK, and will cost around £179 (around $260) for the 16GB version, also features a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front-facing camera and SonicMaster-enhanced stereo speakers.

Design wise, If you are interested in looking at this part, the tablet feels well-designed and very expensive, if you will. You get this delicate and trendy purse-like shape all over the place, with some stylish fancy colors (such as champagne gold, black, or burgundy) coating on the back of the tile.

The Asus Memo Pad 7 is a neat mini tablet that attempts to compete with the iPad Mini and the Google Nexus 7, but at a much lower price. If it can do that, it should succeed because the need for a good budget tablet will be there.

New 8-inch Acer Iconia W4 Tablet Spotted in the Wild

While still unofficial, a rumor about a new successor to Acer’s Windows-powered Iconia W3 tablet has reportedly been floating around for quite some time now. The Taiwanese corp has yet to say a word about it, but nonetheless the device was already spotted yesterday at an Intel event. It is very similar looking in design to the previous model, the W3. It is quite small, and would fit in the palm of your hand quite easily, but then of course there are some differences as well. The most notable one is the new Intel Bay Trail chip, the 1.33GHz Atom Z3740 processor. But the 1,280 x 800 display has been improved as well (IPS panel, contrast, viewing angles), while the storage and memory remain exactly the same – 32GB  of storage capacity with 2GB of DDR3 RAM. Pricing and availability haven’t been disclosed at this point, but you can check out the Bouweenpc.nl video to learn even more.

Update: The new W4 is now officially available for a purchase starting at $330 for the 32GB model and only $50 for double the storage capacity.

ASUS Officially Announces The FonePad: A 7-inch Tablet with Phone Capabilities

Asus-FonePad-tablet

All in a sudden, the tablet-phone trend has become visible at Mobile World Congress. First it was Samsung to include a cell phone functionality inside the Galaxy Note 8.0, and now it’s the Taiwanese corp with their latest and greatest Asus FonePad (not to confuse with the company’s PadFone), which still features the same 7-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS form factor, alongside a 1.2GHz Atom Z2420 chip, 1GB of RAM, and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. The positive point of this tablet other than the display sharpness and relatively strong CPU, is the stylish design, with either gray or gold colors covering the back, and the thin bezel that gives the unit a clean and polished look. The FonePad comes equipped with a 4,270mAH battery that can provide up to nine hours of continuous work, and of course, as the title suggests, there’s an HSPA+ radio connectivity, running under Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform. Inside the device you’ll also find a micro-SIM slot, 16GB of built-in storage, a digital mic, and a microSD card reader (expandable to 32GB).

Asus has revealed it is planning to release the FonePad in Europe, this coming March, for £179 or €219, depends on your country of residence. And while a US release date has not yet been set, Asus has already confirmed a $249 price tag. Hit the break for full PR and some videos.

“It is ideal to have a larger screen with entertainment, social media and other online activities now playing an increasingly important part in our mobile lifestyles,” said Jonney Shih, ASUS Chairman. “The incorporation of 3G mobile data with full telephony support makes the Fonepad™ a perfect combination of tablet and phone in one single device.”
“Extending our long history of collaboration, including most recently on the Ultrabook™ and Intel-based tablets, we are very excited to be partnering with ASUS again,” said Hermann Eul, Intel® vice president and co-general manager of the Mobile and Communications Group. “Intel’s new Atom™ Z2420 processor delivers the power, performance and flexibility required to accommodate a range of devices and market needs. We think the ASUS Fonepad™ is a very innovative device in an emerging category of 3G tablets with telephony features.”

Beautiful metallic design with Intel® Atom™ performance

Powered by the latest Intel® Atom™ Z2420 processor with full Android compatibility, Fonepad™ features a perfect balance of performance and energy efficiency, with hardware-accelerated 1080p Full HD video decoding and up to nine hours of battery life.

Thanks to its full 3G telephony support, Fonepad™ can also be used for voice calls using the built-in noise-cancelling digital microphone or a Bluetooth headset. Fonepad™ will be available in the UK with 16GB of internal storage and up to 32GB of additional storage with a microSD card. All models feature a front 1.2-megapixel camera for easy video chat and ASUS SonicMaster audio technology with MaxxAudio 3 processing by Waves ensures clear, well-rounded sound quality.

Lenovo Shows Off a 10.1-inch Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet

Another day, another Windows 8 tablet demo over at Computex 2012. This time a Lenovo Thinkpad prototype, spotted around the Intel booth, running a full-fledged Win 8 software behind the lid, and said to include a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 screen, sitting on top of a 9.7mm black sturdy body that packs two cameras (8MP rear, 2MP front), a docking connector, a volume rocker, and a micro-HDMI port. At this point in time, we are looking at one of the very early-stage devices out there, and the final product might look just a little different – And that’s probably why most specs are scarce right now. As far as CPU goes, it’s mainly some sort of an Intel Clover Trail processor, while the battery is rumored to deliver around 10 hours of continuous and reliable performance to each and every charge. And make no mistake, this is a Windows 8 slate and not an Android 4.0 device – It is a bit confusing and does take time to get used to, we know. The overall look seems to be more thought out and reserved, you get a typical Thinkpad design around the slab, with a softy scratches-free plate covering the upper hood. But as we’ve mentioned it’s still early days, so please keep a look out for more details and info.

ASUS Eee PC Flare Netbook Pops Up In The Wild

While most of us have already forgotten about netbooks, Asus is said to launch a new line of ultra-mini laptops a few moments ahead of CES 2012. Now, whether it will be at hit is another question, but in the meantime, we’re talking about the next generation of netbook devices, dubbed Eee PC Flare, which boasts some nice and vivid seashell covers that hide underneath the new N2600 and N2800 Atom CPUs, 12-inch displays, powered by AMD’s Fusion APU lineup and those fancy chiclet keyboards. For now, the Taiwanese corp is planning to launch two models in that size: The 1225B AMD Fusion and 1225C with Cedar Trail, but if rumors are correct, we should expect some 10-incher flavors in the long term, as well (with the 1025C and 1025CE versions). Stay tuned for much more to come.

Update: As promised, we have some more details about the new collection of netbooks from Asus, called Eee PC Flare. It will be offered for $299 with one of the following flavors: Red, Blue, Gray, Pink, and last but not least, there’s a Windows 7 for the OS running on board. The Eee Pc Flare 1025CE is pretty much the same, only with a 1.86GHz Atom N2800 dual-core processor and a few more bucks ($319) to cover the cost.

On to the 12.1-inch models, the 1225B includes a 1.6GHz AMD E-450 dual-core CPU, a a 1,366 x 768 screen resolution, 2GB of DDR3-1333 memory, integrated Intel graphics, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 2-in-1 media card reader, a six-cell battery, and a  a 0.3 megapixel webcam on top. It comes with a Windows 7 Home Premium and ships next month in black, red and white colors. Dell’s 10-inch Tablets Lineup Gets Detailed

We’ve already seen the Dell tablets roadmap for 2011 – 2012, but the guys over at AndroidCentral seem to have a whole new slide, with more specs and release dates. Apparently, there are three new tablets on stake, one, Latitude ST, running Windows 7 on board, along with Intel’s brand new Oak Trail processor, 1366 x 768 screen resolution, 2GB of RAM, up to a 128GB SSD, dual cameras, an accelerometer, HDMI-out and a removable battery pack which is capable to switch on for up to 8 hours of continuous work. While the other two, Streak Pro and Latitude XT-3, boast a 10-inch and a 13-inch displays, respectively, paired with dual cameras, and Android Honeycomb on top. Regretfully, there is no word on price, but the latest slide indicates the Latitude ST will go live this October, while the Android-powered tablets are claimed to start rolling a bit earlier – The Streak Pro in June and the Latitude XT3, one month later.

Toshiba NB520 and NB500 Netbooks Officially Announced

Toshiba has recently announced two new additions to its most popular netbooks lineup: the NB500 and the NB520. Both models, slated for release during the first quarter of 2011, are said to include a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LED-backlit display, along with up to 2GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, 3 x USB ports, Windows 7 Starter edition, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 10 hours battery pack. The main difference between the two, and probably the one you’re wondering about, is a pair of built-in Harman Kardon stereo speakers (2 watts each) that will help you take your NB520 sound experience to a whole new audio level. In addition to the physical differences, the NB520 also comes with an Atom N550 processor while its younger brother, the NB500, boasts a slightly slower CPU, an Atom N455. And with no price attached, it doesn’t bode well for those who are looking forward to it, but things could change on a moment’s notice, so please stay tuned.

HP Mini 1103 “Business Netbook” Released

We’re not quite sure what the advantage is of launching a “business netbook” instead of a “regular” one, but frankly it really doesn’t matter as long as it gets the latest and greatest hardware around. And when it comes to netbooks, we basically talk about anything that is similar to HP’s recent Mini 1103 lineup, or in other words, a 10.1-inch display, paired with Intel Atom N455 / N475 processors, 1GB of RAM, six-cell battery and a 250GB hard drive. And given that it’s for “business” uses, you’ll also receive HP’s business applications (QuickSync and QuickWeb) along with your choice of Windows 7 Starter, SUSE Linux, or FreeDOS for the OS inside. Did we mention it’s only 299 bucks?

HP Slate 500 Officially Goes Live For $799

Surprise, surprise! The long-awaited HP Slate 500 is finally out. And while both official video (after the break) and prospects clearly indicate that HP is aiming the Slate at the enterprise and business market (like Medical services, Restaurants, etc.), in practice, anyone who’s interested in buying this 8.9-inch (1024×600) capacitive touchscreen monster, can easily log into HP’s online store and nab it for a staggering $799. No, it doesn’t have 3G connectivity included, nor replaceable battery or any special UI layer attached (onto the preloaded Win 7 Professional platform). But it does have WiFi, along with a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB SSD, rear 3MP camera and another one at 1.3 megapixels, up front. In addition to that, there’s also a powerful Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator for smooth handling of 1080p content, an SD card slot, a USB port, headphone jacks and a N-Trig active digitizer for those who’d like to take some notes. But wait, if that wasn’t enough, folks, the US computers giant will also add to the package a nice covering case, together with a stylus pen for touch interaction, and this cool charging cradle, which boasts two additional USB hubs, headphone jack, a power connector and HDMI output – all located at the back of the dock. NICE! Full PR, full specs and couple of hands-on videos right after the jump.

Screen sizes are at 11.6-inch and 10.1-inch, both featuring capacitive touchscreen displays, and while the TW317A5 and TW217A5 versions get 32GB SSD, the TW117A4 goes traditionally with a 160GB HDD of storage. ASUS 10-inch EPad Tablet Surfaces in Computex 2010

Asus is really getting us confused. It wasn’t so long ago when we wrote a post, reporting about the new EEE tablets lineup the company is expected to launch shortly, with new models like 12-inch Eee Pad EP121 and the 10-inch Eee Pad EP101TC. So far so good, right? Wrong! Because the guys at jkkmobile have just spotted (in Computex 2010) yet another model which suspiciously looks pretty similar to the EP101TC, this time carrying an “EPad” title written on a placard, up front. Now, whether it’s the same tablet or not, this “new” revelation houses a 10-inch capacitive display, running Windows 7 for the OS and probably, just probably NVIDIA Tegra 2 under the coat. The CPU is clearly from Intel, however we can’t be sure what other internal parts this bad boy will boast. For the meantime, make sure you check out the hands-on video after the jump.

LG UX10 tablet Makes First Appearance at Computex 2010

Details scarce at the moment, but this is definitely an exciting time to join the tablets parade, and LG is one of the many companies that currently seek to do so. Need a proof? Check out its latest LG UX10, which undoubtedly belong to this burgeoning category, with that 10.1-inch LED capacitive touchscreen (not very responsive at the moment), featuring an Intel Atom Z530 processor under the lid, tucked with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, an SD card slot, a micro-HDMI output, 1.3mp camera and Windows 7 Home Premium for the OS – yes, it runs a Microsoft platform inside. MSI WindPad 100 And 110 Spoted Live n Kickin’ at Computex 2010

It’s been a long time since we’ve last seen a real MSI tablet in action, but that (as a fact) doesn’t necessarily mean the Chinese corp has stopped manufacturing. On the contrary, it has just introduced two of its brand new 10-inch tablets at the Computex show in Taipei. The first model, WindPad 110, is powered by an Android 2.1 OS, and seems to be capable of handling high-def content pretty well, thanks to NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor on board. The touchscreen is capacitive and very responsive if you wondered, and the chassis itself includes a USB port and video output as well. The tablet will sell for $399 by the end of this year.

Heading to the second version, the WindPad 100 (which we’ve already seen a while ago), this one runs a Windows 7 Premium platform, while specs wise, it packs a 1.66GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM, 32GB SSD, two USB ports, an HDMI output, built-in webcam and finally, a special Wind Touch UI which MSI has literally stuffed on top of Microsoft’s coat. The WinPad 100 is set for release later this year for about $499 – hundred dollars more.

Update: Now official. Prices are at $399 for the U110 and $499 for the U100. Availability is yet to be determined.

Sony VAIO W Netbook Gets a Fashionable Billabong Design

Isn’t she a beauty? That’s probably the first thing crossing your mind right now, looking at Sony’s Billabong inspired VAIO W netbook, that was recently announced over in Australia and due out next month for a whopping AU$749 ( about $620) price tag. It is expensive for a 10.1-inch (1,366 x 768) netbook, paired with a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N470, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter and an integrated Intel GPU,  if you get to think about it, but hey! that’s exactly what arts and crafts were made for, isn’t it? And frankly, Sony’s engineers have already proven their worth in the industry, so whether you’d pay for a Sony-Billabong partnership or not, it’s really up to you to decide – We are just sharing our crazy wish list here. As of today, a Stateside availability is still unknown.

Update: Looks like Sony’s 10.1-inch Billabong netbook is finally making its way Stateside, with a pre-order page up and ready to take your orders at $500, and shipment set for June 11th. PR after the break.

ASUS EeePC 1015P and 1015PE Sprout Out Officially, Deliver Up To 13.5 Hours Of Battery Work

It’s all about battery life and longevity these days, especially when it comes to laptops and portable media devices. And Asus, more than anyone else in this industry, seems to understand it pretty well, otherwise, how can you explain these two 10.1-inch netbooks, EeePC 1015P and 1015PE, that recently announced with Pine Trail CPUs inside along with a massive 6-cell 63Wh battery pack delivering up to 13.5 hours of continuous work – now that’s a lot, isn’t it? Besides that, you get the usual components you’d probably expect to find in any other powerful netbooks available in the pond, including two gigs of RAM, 160GB to 320GB capacities to choose from, Windows 7 for the OS, WiFi, Bluetooth, built-in webcam and finally, Atom N450 processors. On that note, you should know that the difference between the two versions is essentially cosmetic. Price and availability are yet to be determined though.

Sony Vaio P Lineup Resurfaces With an Optical Touchpad and Accelerometer

Does anyone remember Sony’s revolutionary Vaio P series? It seems to be a forgotten word until lately for some reason. Only now, it finally gets the update it needed but it doesn’t hold a candle to the tablet’s eclectic experience, does it?  Thankfully, the 8-inch netbook (or mini laptop for that matter) we’ve come to know and love, is back with an optical touchpad built to both sides of the screen bezel – pad to the right and mouse buttons to the left – and an integrated accelerometer, to ease your internet surfing mission, as tilt means back and forward in pages while vertical mode makes it a lot more convenient to read your docs. Besides that it’s also expected to include a faster Intel Atom Z560 processor to boost things up, and make it out sometime this June with five new colorful flavors. Prices, regretfully, are yet to be determined while specs and Full PR announcement are just after the break. Stay tuned.

Update1: Turns out that VAIO P entry-level units will run for $799 in the US with Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor inside. Still no clue about other optional packages, but the price is definitely more attractive than expected.

Update2: The guys at ITMedia have already managed to take Sony’s Vaio P next-gen laptops to a comprehensive teardown session that unveiled the existence of Intel’s Silverthorne CPU inside, offered either in Z530 (1.6 GHz), Z550 (2Ghz) or Z560 (2.133 GHz) version, paired with one of three optional SSD capacities (64, 128 and 256GB), and most common connectivity modules, including Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G WWAN and even Wimax. Netbook news has published a lot of inside images, taken from close range, so click through and take a look.

Update3: Engadget’s Joanna Stern has tackled with Sony’s Vaio P second-gen laptop as well and you can watch her quick walkthrough video after the break.

Update4: According to Sony Japan Sony’s Vaio P second-gen can also be used as a wireless “Remote Keyboard” to your PS3 gaming console – neat, isn’t it? Of course it would drain your battery life quickly, but that’s one compromise against so many benefits.

Update5: And looks like Sony’s second-gen VAIO P is finally available for pre-order on the SonyStyle website, starting at $899.99 for the Atom Z530 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM, and a larger 128GB SSD. Shipping is slated to June 25th.

Jumper’s 10.1-inch JK01-TT Tablet Is Dancing In The iPad’s Playground

Here’s a question: what looks like an iPad, feels like an iPad, but isn’t an iPad? Jumper’s JK01-TT tablet, obviously. Well, obvious should be put in the right context here, as most of the components in this 10.1 touchscreen device are most likely taken from the overcrowded netbooks world. And therefore, for a whopping $671, you may think you’re buying an ultra portable laptop while in practice it’s actually a tablet, that packs an Intel Atom N450 processor paired with 2GB RAM, Intel’s Atom N450 processor, 250GB SATA HDD, 2mp webcam, 4-in-1 card reader, 3 x USB ports, WiFi, 3G connectivity, an HDMI output and finally, Windows 7 for the OS command – impressive, but still expensive to buy. If that’s your thing, then check out the video after the break.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3s Sneaks Into The Thin and Light Netbooks World

We’ve already seen Lenovos’s new S10-3 netbooks lineup pass through the CES show in Vegas, back in January, but we’ve only just now been treated to the first proper piece of info about the company’s S10-3S device, which apparently includes the usual peek under the hood, but a whole new thin-and-light outfit from the outside. And while most usual S10-3 versions are measured at 1-inch thick, this one, on the other hand, is only .6-inches thin over 2.4 lbs. What’s more, the new version also offers Intel’s Atom N450 / N470 processors, 1GB of RAM, storage capacities ranged from 160GB and up to 320GB at your choice – and those interested, can now get the basic specs for $379 and not a penny more. ASUS Eee PC 1001PX Is Where Carbon-Fiber and Netbooks Come Together

At first glance, the latest Asus Eee PC 1001PX is just the typical Pine Trail netbook machine you all should be expecting, with this wide glossy 10.1-inch display, powered by Intel’s Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, 9 hours of  battery life and Windows 7 Starter edition to handle things around – this ain’t new, we’ve already seen it before, right?  That been said, a closer look at this thin-n-slim Seashell formed laptop  device would likely change your minds. Why, you’re asking? It’s that stunning carbon-fiber coat that tops the cover lid, all the way down, granting the 1001PX a nice premium look, rather than a fingerprints magnet hood that would ridiculously cost ‘ya only $299 (or $20 less in case you’re more into the old fashioned XP style).

Neofonie WePad Android Slate Announced

Not sure if anyone has already made a movie called “The Slate Attack”, but reality, on the other hand, proves that every day. The latest contender within this realm is Neofonie’s Android-based WePad, which apparently boasts netbook specs inside and 11.6-inch HD compatible (1366 x 768) touchscreen from the outside. And to be more specific, for a nondisclosure price you’d get yourself a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, paired with two USB ports, a built-in webcam, UMTS modem, a flash card reader, Intel’s GMA 3150 graphics accelerator, and up to 6 hours of battery support. Besides that, If we’d take Neofonie words seriously, then mind you there’s a WePad app store on the prep, that will join the already exists Google Android Market place when this slate comes out officially somewhere this fall.

Google Chrome OS Announced, Will Be available In 2010

google-chrome_1

Google has just thrown a bomb to the IT world, announcing a new Chrom OS platform that suppose to give an open-source solution mainly for netbooks but also for full-size desktop systems, and is expected to go live somewhere on the second half of 2010. Additionally, the new OS from Mountain View, CA is claimed to smoothly run any x86 and ARM chips, while the company firmly says it already teamed up with manufacturers like Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments to bring you all the best and comprehensive UI you’d get, so stay tuned for a lot more to come. Here’s what Google’s blog had to say, in a nutshell:

“Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.”

Fujitsu's Modish Loox M Netbook Wants To Be Big In Japan (Update: Now M2010 Worldwide)

Another day, another netbook and yet again, the same usual specs we’ve all been singing back and forth, this time to the chorus of Fujitsu’s LooX M Atom device that includes a 1.6GHz N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, three USB 2.0 ports, multi-card reader and a webcam, hiding somewhere at the top. In terms of design however, the new Loox M is equipped with a breath of fresh air, coated in Red or White flavors, featuring sort of “infinite” mark and an expropriated price which stands at ¥59,800 ($611) in Japan.

Update1: Turns out Fujitsu just got official with the LooX M in some other parts of the world, this time branded as M2010, which packs the same specs we’ve already noted above, but with some new surprising goodies bundled inside, like wireless mouse and a DVD burner (probably external), that make this deal more attractive than ever.

Update2: Apparently, Fujitsu’s M2010 netbook edition is finally available Stateside, with a 3-cell battery (6-cell optional for extra $129), and a $450 price tag. Other than that, you get pretty much the same usual specs, which makes the M2010 a little pricey. You can find it in here.
