Sony Playstation 5 Officially Announced, Starts at $499 for Regular Model, Launches Nov. 12

Sony has officially announced some details about the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 including release date, price, game titles and more.

PlayStation 5 Price, Models and Availability

The new PS5 will start at $399.99 for the Digital Edition which doesn’t include a physical disc, and $499.99 for the “regular” version that looks just the same but with Blu Ray included. Both models to arrive November 12 in selected countries such as North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Sony tweeted that the pre-orders would begin today, September 17 so you can check out this option if interested, right here

The “rest of the world” will get their chance to celebrate the new release a week later, on November 19.

The Sony PS5 will compete directly with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S game consoles that already been announced exactly 7 days before. Microsoft’s console to launch only two days ahead of Sony’s consoles for $500 and $300, respectively.

Sony Xperia C4 Dual vs M4 Aqua Dual

Sony has just launched its two new smartphones in India. These are Xperia series smartphones named M4 Aqua Dual and C4 Dual. Xperia M4 Aqua Dual has been priced at $390 (Rs. 24990) while the price of C4 Dual has not been disclosed yet. M4 Aqua Dual happens to be the first smartphone fitted with an octa-core processor. As both smartphones belong to Xperia series and share many similarities, it becomes confusing for the people to choose one of the two smartphones. This article attempts to compare the two smartphones to highlight their pros and cons.

Dimensions

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua Dual has dimensions of 145.5X72.6X7.3mm. On the other hand, C4 Dual measures 150.3 x 77.4 x 7.9mm. This means that M4 Aqua Dual is thinner of the two siblings. However, C4 Dual is not only longer but also wider than M4 Aqua Dual. As far as weight is concerned, C4 Dual is heavier at 147g while the weight of M4 Aqua Dual is only 140g. Thus for all those who prefer a lighter and thinner smartphone, Xperia M4 Aqua Dual is a better choice.

Processing power

Both these Xperia smartphones are equipped with octa-core processor to make them lightening fast. Xperia M4 Aqua Dual is fitted with a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 4 cores at 1.5GHz and other 4 cores at 1 GHz. On the other hand, Xperia C4 Dual is powered by a 54 bit 1.7 GHz octa core processor from Mediatek (MT6572). This makes the processor of C4 Dual around 13% faster than the processor of M4 Aqua Dual. Both smartphones run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

RAM and onboard storage

Both smartphones belonging to the Xperia range of phones are fitted with a solid 2 GB of RAM and provide 16 GB of onboard memory. However, M4 Aqua Dual is also available with an 8GB model having 2 GB of RAM. One can expand the memory of both smartphones using micro SD cards.

Display

It is the bright and colorful display that attracts most buyers. Xperia M4 Aqua Dual has a 5 inch display whereas C4 Dual has a larger 5.5 inch display. Both phones make use of IPS LCD screens. The resolution produce by C4 Dual is higher at 1920X1080p whereas Xperia M4 Aqua Dual reaches a resolution of only 1280X720pixels. Even in terms of pixel density, C4 Dual is way ahead with 401ppi whereas M4 Aqua Dual has 294ppi.

Camera power

Both Xperia smartphones from Sony are dual camera devices. Both M4 Aqua Dual and C4 Dual are fitted with 13 MP rear cameras. Both rear cameras can record videos in HD and fitted with LED flash and Autofocus features. Both smartphones also have 5 MP front cameras. However there is LED flash in the front camera of C4 Dual whereas this feature is absent in the front camera of M4 Aqua Dual.

Battery life

In terms of battery life, Sony Xperia C4 Dual is a winner as it is fitted with a 2600mAh Li-ion battery whereas M4 aqua Dual is fitted with a smaller 2400mAh battery. Both phones have non removable batteries. This often poses a problem for the users. With a removable battery, they can remove the battery when the set hangs because of some reason. The standby time of battery of M4 Aqua Dual is 779 hours while it gives a talk time of up to 13 hours. Surprisingly, even with a larger battery, C4 Dual gives roughly the same 13 hours of talk time to the user.

Connectivity features

Both Xperia series smartphones are packed with great connectivity features. Both phones are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and they can become Wi-Fi hotspots. Both have GPS, GPRS, Bluetooth V4.1, and micro USB V2.0. Both phones also have NFC and DLNA. However, M4 Aqua Dual boasts of HDMI port for display on larger screens while C4 Dual lacks this feature. Both smartphones are fitted with HTML 5 browsers. Both smartphones are also fitted with FM radios with RDS.

Extra features

Xperia M4 Aqua Dual has a dust proof design. It is also water resistant up to a depth of 30 meters as per IPS68 certification. Both these features are lacking in C4 Dual smartphone. This makes M4 a better choice for people working in close proximity to water and those who work in dusty environments.

Price

Both these smartphones belong to the mid price segment. While Sony has announced the price of M4 Aqua Dual, pegging it at $390 (Rs. 24990), it has not disclosed the price of C4 Dual. However, given the specifications, experts believe that it should have a more or less similar price tag.

Conclusion

Both Xperia M4 Aqua Dual and Xperia C4 Dual are great smartphones boasting of very similar specifications. Both are also expected to be priced at similar levels. Sony is projecting M4 Aqua Dual as the first dust resistant and water proof smartphone in this segment. M4 Aqua Dual is the thinner of the two smartphones though C4 is much longer and wider. C4 Dual boasts of a larger display (5.5 inches) and it also produces a much higher resolution than M4 aqua Dual. Thus C4 Dual will be the first choice of consumers who are fond of watching videos on their smartphones. Both smartphones run on latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS but the C4 is ahead of M4 aqua Dual as it has 13% more processing power because of 1.7 GHz processor in comparison to 1.5 GHz processor of M4 aqua Dual.

On the face of it, C4 Dual has better specs than M4 Aqua Dual as it has larger display, bigger battery, and a faster processor. But some people might prefer M4 Aqua Dual because of its dust free and water proof designing. Experts believe that M4 would be the first choice if Sony decides to sell C4 at a higher price. But if the price difference is close to a thousand Rupees, most people would go in for C4 Dual.

Microsoft Apps to Come Preloaded On LG, Sony, Other Android Tablets

Microsoft is one of these tech-oriented giant companies that seem to know a thing or two about software distribution across the pond. But what about apps? Glad you asked, because there’s something going on around the business of this corp these days – strategic wise, of course. Based on the details shared, the Windows maker announced that it has officially partnered with more than 20 Android tablet makers, among them are also big leaders like LG and Sony, to bundle its apps on future tablet versions or updates. Some of the apps which are due to come pre-loaded inside include the popular video messaging app Skype, as well as Bing, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook Word, Excel, and a variety some others. A sort of an Office Suite, if you will. The purpose of this move is likely to create a cross-platform functionality for its apps. Whether this is an indication that Microsoft is giving up on its own platform or not, I have no idea, but time will surely tell.

Sony’s Next-Gen Xperia Z4 Tablet Unveiled (Update: Now Official)

What’s that, Sony‘s brand new Xperia Z4 tablet leaked? Yeah, that definitely looks like it. Oops! It’s not that the company was intentionally leaking the next-generation of its high-end Android tablet a few days ahead of MWC 2015, that’s not the case this time, but the new one looks impressive and immediately more professional than the Xperia Z3 Compact, right?

While the image has already been pulled by Sony from Xperia Lounge, it does hint at the impending launch of the tablet, on March 3rd, and that it is likely to include a high-res 2K resolution display, as well as the “latest ultra fast processor” inside – whatever that means. Additionally, Sony describes the slim-looking tablet, which is expected to run under Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, as a lightweight premium device that features an “industry-leading battery performance.” Uh Oh, that sounds REALLY cool.

Unfortunately that’s all we can share about it for now, as they’ve yet to announce size, specifications, pricing, availability or anything else important to know, but we’ll be sure to bring you the updates very soon.

Update: At MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Sony has officially introduced its latest and greatest flagship tablet device, the Xperia Z4. The 6.1mm super-slim slate is housing a beautiful 10.1-inch 2K resolution display, tucked with a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood as well as your choice of either Wi-Fi or LTE variants, packing at least 32GB of integrated memory. Out of the box, the Xperia Z4 slab is likely to run the latest edition of Android Lollipop operating system, and there’s an optional keyboard dock that literally turns the tablet into an hybrid laptop/tablet machine. There’s still no word on pricing, but the two will launch globally starting June 2015.

Sony Announces Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact With 8-Inch Display

Well, well, well, what do we have here? Looks like a new mid-range tablet joiner, courtesy of the talented Sony engineering team. The slate, which goes under the “Xperia Z3 compact” moniker, is Sony’s latest and greatest device, featuring a slim 6.4-mm(!) profile and chassis design, as well as 3GB of RAM, along with a powerful 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor plus a 1080p TILUMINOS screen display on top. The 8-inch tablet is waterproof and well protected (IP65/68) and has an 8.1-megapixel rear camera and a 2.2-megapixel shooter up front. For battery life, it will offer up to 13 hours of video playback, as well as LTE network, and a new PlayStation 4 Remote capabilities, allowing you to play your latest games away from the tele. It will run under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box and you’ll be able to nab one sometime in the Fall. Prices are yet to be released.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Specs Leaked (Now Official)

Another day, another @evleaks leak. This time it’s a new successor to the beautiful Sony Xperia z1 tablet, which happens to be registered under the name of Xperia Z2 (is anyone surprised?). If rumors are proven correct, the next Xperia iteration is likely to pack a SnapDragon 800 2.3GHz x4 processor under the hood, alongside a 10.1-inch 1920×1200 Full-HD Triluminos Display, with a system memory of 3GB RAM, and an internal storage capacity starting at 16GB and doubling at each step. The storage is obviously expandable via microSD slot expansion, and the camera features are top of the line as well. Apart from 8MP rear camera, the device also holds a 2MP secondary camera for video calling and runs on Android Kitkat 4.4 OS. And while the actual product photo is not available, It is also rumored to come with a very thin body measuring at 6.4 mm and it’ll also be enclosed in a waterproof body. More details to follow.

Update1: The guys over at @evleaks just posted an unverified image of the next Xperia tablet. Initial look and feel is very similar to the first generation, the Z1 tablet, only with some better specs. We look forward to learning more about this product at Sony’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona on February 24.

Update2: Mobile World Congress 2014 began yesterday in Barcelona, lifting the curtain of the upcoming Xperia Z2 tablet which Sony claims to be the thinnest and lightest waterproof slate in the world. Other than that, leaks were right on the spot with the new Z2 packing a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 pixel Triluminos display along with 3GB RAM, a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, dual 8.1/2.2-megapixel cameras, and a super slim chassis measuring in only 6.9mm thick. Naturally, it comes running the latest and greatest Android OS known as 4.4.2 KitKat.

Sony Vaio Tap 11 is The “World’s Thinnest Windows 8 Tablet PC”

Sony products always seem to be on the high side, with simple and elegant design, but also with a very high price tag. The Vaio Tap 11, which was recently announced by the Japanese corp at the IFA 2013 tradeshow, is no exception. In fact it’s fully loaded with many of impressive new features. The 1,920 x 1,080 IPS screen on this slate is beautiful. It measures 11.6 inches diagonally and is extremely clear and bright. Additionally, It will also include an N-Trig digitizer to enable more expressive forms of pen-touch input.

The new Tap 11, which is claimed to be the “world’s thinnest tablet PC” is obviously trying to take on Microsoft’s flagship Surface Pro. It’s only 9.9mm thick, and like the Surface, boasts a fully retractable kickstand behind, for portrait or landscape propping. The Windows 8 tablet turns on fast and aims to combine PC power and tablet portability in one single slab. The Vaio Tap 11 runs on Intel’s new Haswell CPU, with your choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 processors. In addition, it packs 4GB of RAM and a range of 128GB to 512GB SSD storage configuration. As far as battery goes, Sony says it will offer up to 6 hours of battery life and can be charged in a reasonable time. There’s also NFC on board, which supports one-touch pairing with Sony’s range of machines.

Apart from all that, the Tap 11 is also equipped with a full USB 3.0 port, a micro-HDMI input to connect LED TVs and some other HDMI-capable devices, a built-in IR remote, microSD card slot, dual stereo speakers, and a front 2 megapixels shooter plus an 8 megapixels rear-facing camera, tucked with Sony’s own Exmor-RS sensor. Software wise, you’ll have pre-loaded inside a nice batch of Adobe Creative Cloud programs.

Along with the Vaio Tap 11, Sony is offering a slim & detachable wireless keyboard that can also be used as a nice protective cover, in particular when you charge the battery. There’s also a touchpad built into the chiclet keys, and it can be turned off at the switch on the keyboard.

Both price and availability are to be determined, so you’ll have to wait a while if you want it.

Sony Announces Xperia Tablet Z: a 6.9mm Device with Quad Core CPU and Full HD Screen

At a press conference in Japan, Sony has announced its latest and greatest Xperia Z tablet. I suppose you could say it’s yet another Android device. Well, let me tell you something… IT’S NOT. First and foremost, it is CRAZY thin, only 6.9mm thick, and it boasts a dazzling 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen (with Mobile Bravia Engine 2). In addition, it runs an Android Jelly Bean under the hood, and packs a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064 processor, alongside 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, microSD card expansion and Sony’s “S-Force” virtual surround sound technology. Told you guys, it’s a premium device, with some top-notch equipment inside. In that regard, we’re also looking at a brilliant 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, paired with an NFC technology and LTE support (MDM9215M radio). Finally, there’s a 6,000mAh battery, that can sustain whatever media apps you are utilizing. Both pricing and availability yet to be revealed.

Update1: Sony has made it official. The company announced plans to launch its Black ultra-thin Tablet Z, throughout Sony stores and authorized sellers, this coming May, while the white version is said to be available only via Sony’s official stores. In addition, the Japanese corp has also announced a plan to release a WiFi-only version with 64GB storage in the US, this year. In terms of pricing, the 16GB model will run you $499, and the 32GB flavor will set you back $599. Official video after the break.

Update2: And looks like the 10-inch Xperia Z is now officially available for purchase at the U.S Sony Store, with prices starting at $500 for the 32GB model and up to $600 for 64GB flavor.

Sony Xperia Tablet S Now Official, Tegra 3 and ICS Onboard

They say that every rumor has some truth to it, and the one that was talking about a new Sony slate, has also succeeded to live up to its claims. In other words, those leaked slides were spot on to the inch, as the Japanese corp officially announces the Xperia S tablet – A very powerful Tegra 3 quad-core device, with up to 64GB of internal storage, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, a gyroscope, accelerometer, a full-size SD card slot, HDMI out, and a Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform for the OS. In that regard, the company promised that a Jelly Bean update will be made available as soon as possible.

While Sony managed to preserve most of the Tablet S exterior design, the internal parts, however, were greatly enhanced. The storage capacity substantially increased, the chip, as mentioned earlier, was upgraded from Nvidia Tegra 2 to the latest and greatest Tegra 3, battery is now at 6,000mAh, or somewhere around 10 working hours. But the wonderful TruBlack Bravia screen, that was first shown at IFA last year, remained untouched at 9.4-inches with 1,280 x 800 resolution.

Sony has always been a leading TV brand, and as such the new Xperia S can also be used as a universal remote control when watching TV, with programmable shortcut keys (up to 6 macros) and an integrated IR emitter.

The tablet comes with preloaded apps like Watch Now, which lets you watch live TV and share your thoughts with other online users (either via Facebook or Twitter), get recommendations, or any other related info. There’s also a “Guest Mode” feature that enables apps control or surfing limitations. All in all, a good privacy keeper, we’d say. And, of course, some multitasking capabilities were tossed in, alongside Sony’s multimedia apps, the Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited, where you can browse and purchase some digital content.

The Xperia Tablet S launches September 7, in three different Wi-Fi only flavors: 16GB ($399.99), 32GB ($499.99) and 64GB ($599.00).

You may also buy yourself a wide range of handy accessories for the Xperia Tablet S, including a cover plus keyboard ($99.99), docking stand ($99.99), simple stand ($24.99), carrying cover ($50.99 – $79.99), charging cradle ($39.99) and speaker dock ($129.99, available in November).

Unannounced Sony VAIO Duo 11 Hybrid Tablet Leaks, Runs Windows 8 With Keyboard Station (Update: Now Official)

We have already had a chance to see some random images of Sony’s purported Xpreria hybrid device, in the past few weeks. But surprisingly, it looks like there is yet another viable option, we’ve never heard of, that’s likely to join the company’s lineup. At least that’s what the cool PocketNow guys are claiming. And while details are scarce at the moment, the only thing we can all be sure about, when it comes to this brand new VAIO Duo 11 (or whatever they call it), is that it will run on Windows 8 OS and not Android (if the photos do indeed exist and are real). As for the slab itself, it is likely to go out in the form of a tablet-laptop convertible machine, paired with a sleek detachable keyboard dock for optimal typing, as well as a handy mini stylus pen that you use to draw freely on screen, which according to sources will probably match the size of the tablet name (11-inch). Other specs, price and availability are still unknown.

Update: Sony has just made an official introduction of the VAIO Duo 11 slider tablet, at IFA 2012. The screen is confirmed to be 11.6-inch at a 1080p resolution, with the launch date set for October 2012. This isn’t your usual tablet, my dear fellows, it’s more like an ultrabook than your average day-to-day slab. Inside, you’ll find Intel’s newest Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 chip, with all the latest technology around (e.g GPS, NFC), while storage capacity is at 128GB or 256GB SSD. Sony Launches New Line of Walkman Products

Today, when tablets have become very popular, and mp3 players are considered “meh” it is rare to see a company at such high-profile as Sony announce plans to launch a new range of small media devices, that people barely notice anymore. But that will not deter a company like Sony in pursuing business opportunities, right? Well, as a matter of fact, it has just rolled out a few different types of new music players; among them you’ll find the Walkman F800 and the E470/570 series. And while the F group is more of an upscale, high-end look, the E series is an entry-level set at the top of the line.

So what do really get and for how much? The Walkman F800, Sony’s new flagship player, is said to run Google’s Android 4.0 platform out of the box, along with a 3.5-inch display, WiFi / Bluetooth connectivity, fairly reasonable 4.5 hours of video playback, and storage capacities of 8GB/16GB/32GB at your choice, with a European launch expected in the next coming months, and prices vary, starting at about £210 ($280).

The E series, on the other hand, is expected to be a lot cheaper than the F. The noise-cancelling feature in the Walkman E570 lineup is one of the most noticeable things you’ll find in this upcoming iteration , and it’s expected to pack a 2-inch LCD screen, as well. Another model in that series, the Walkman E470, is likely to sell for around £80 (or $80), in a wide variety of colors and a battery life of up to 36 hours for music playback . The new versions will also have an optional dock that can charge ’em up and increase their volume level.

Lastly, there’s the Walkman S770BT model, for those who like to stream music over their bluetooth wireless speakers.

Sony S and P Tablets Now Officially Official

We have been hearing about Sony’s much-anticipated line of Android tablets ever since it first appeared as a quirky piece of mysterious sketches. And while the Japanese corp has officially announced it back in April, the REAL introduction came just four months later, at the 2011 IFA press event, earlier this week. Basically speaking there are two different tablets in this category: The Sony S (used to be called “S1”) that looks like a squarish curvy tablet device, and the Sony P (previously known as the “S2”), which is more of a clamshell design. Both tablets are running Android Honeycomb inside so in terms of use, the look and feel is very similar, though experience wise it is a whole different story – One has a single 9.4-inch touchscreen, while the other packs dual five-inch 1024 x 480 displays. In addition we’ve been told they are both planned to go out in Europe at the end of September and November, respectively, with prices set at €479 and €599, while a US release is still unconfirmed but strongly suspected within weeks (for $499 and $599).

Drilling Down to the nitty-gritty details, the Sony P, the one with the two 5-inch screens (we know, it’s confusing), is said to include a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 SoC chip, 5MP rear camera plus a VGA on front, a 3,080mAh battery, an HSPA/radio, 4GB of internal storage, a micro-USB hub, 3.5mm jack and an SD card slot. The dual screens can both work together or in some cases, independently, while the Android 3.2 platform (the powerhouse behind the Sony P) seems to be running smoothly, all over the place, and at all times!

The second device, the Sony S, comes with a traditional tablet design, on first look, but there’s a typical Sony twist out there, when you get to show it off – especially on sides and behind. As mentioned, it boasts a 9.4-inch (1,280 x 800) IPS display with Sony TruBlack Bravia TV technologies, Android Honeycomb OS, 16GB or 32GB of storage capacities at your choice, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a full-sized SD card slot. There’s also a Terga 2 chipset under the hood, along with a nice volume rocker on the side, and a battery that provides long hours of intense working time.

Rumor: Sony is Prepping An Android PlayStation Tablet

It’s a bit odd that we still haven’t heard anything from Sony about a possible launch of a tablet device, but somehow you always get the feeling there’s something cool they are working on at the moment. And if Engadget’s latest report should be taken into consideration, and it should, then the Japanese corp is currently working on some sort of a Playstation tablet, running Google’s android Honeycomb on board. Sounds almost unbelievable, right? And yet, it might be true. The name of the presumable device is “S1” and according to various sources, there’s a good chance it would boast a 9.4-inch screen with 1280 X 800 resolution, front and rear-facing cameras, USB hub, a Tegra 2 processor, volume on / off buttons and an IR emitter for the use of Sony TVs control. Rumor has it that the S1 will go for a $599 price tag with a planned September ship, or maybe even before. Stay tuned for a whole lot more.

The company has recently announced a new E350 Walkman lineup, and reportedly plans to sell it around the globe either on Red, Blue or Black flavors at your choice, priced at merely $70 for the 4GB model or double the size for only 10 bucks more. Battery wise, you get to play up to 50 hours of music playback with this gadget, or up to ten hours, in case you prefer the video mode. Sony VAIO W Netbook Gets a Fashionable Billabong Design

Isn’t she a beauty? That’s probably the first thing crossing your mind right now, looking at Sony’s Billabong inspired VAIO W netbook, that was recently announced over in Australia and due out next month for a whopping AU$749 ( about $620) price tag. It is expensive for a 10.1-inch (1,366 x 768) netbook, paired with a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N470, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter and an integrated Intel GPU, if you get to think about it, but hey! that’s exactly what arts and crafts were made for, isn’t it? And frankly, Sony’s engineers have already proven their worth in the industry, so whether you’d pay for a Sony-Billabong partnership or not, it’s really up to you to decide – We are just sharing our crazy wish list here. As of today, a Stateside availability is still unknown.

Sony Vaio P Lineup Resurfaces With an Optical Touchpad and Accelerometer

Does anyone remember Sony’s revolutionary Vaio P series? It seems to be a forgotten word until lately for some reason. Only now, it finally gets the update it needed but it doesn’t hold a candle to the tablet’s eclectic experience, does it? Thankfully, the 8-inch netbook (or mini laptop for that matter) we’ve come to know and love, is back with an optical touchpad built to both sides of the screen bezel – pad to the right and mouse buttons to the left – and an integrated accelerometer, to ease your internet surfing mission, as tilt means back and forward in pages while vertical mode makes it a lot more convenient to read your docs. Besides that it’s also expected to include a faster Intel Atom Z560 processor to boost things up, and make it out sometime this June with five new colorful flavors. Prices, regretfully, are yet to be determined while specs and Full PR announcement are just after the break. Stay tuned.

Update1: Turns out that VAIO P entry-level units will run for $799 in the US with Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor inside. Still no clue about other optional packages, but the price is definitely more attractive than expected.

Update2: The guys at ITMedia have already managed to take Sony’s Vaio P next-gen laptops to a comprehensive teardown session that unveiled the existence of Intel’s Silverthorne CPU inside, offered either in Z530 (1.6 GHz), Z550 (2Ghz) or Z560 (2.133 GHz) version, paired with one of three optional SSD capacities (64, 128 and 256GB), and most common connectivity modules, including Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G WWAN and even Wimax. Sony Vaio M Netbook Series Pops Up In The Wild

Well, this one came out of the blue with no official announcement, but a fairly reasonable cause. It’s Sony’s latest M series netbook which suppose to replace the Vaio W series with more updated specs but pretty much the same feel and looks. From what we know so far (and there’s not much to say), It would boast a 10.1 1024×600 16:10 LED display, jammed with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, a built-in webcam and Intel’s new GMA 3150 graphics accelerator. As of today, there’s still no word about price or availability, but hey – we promise to deliver, once they get to our hands.

Update1: Netbooknews says it would run for $349 euros either in Black or Silver flavors. In addition, it suppose to include Windows 7 Starter and a 6 cell battery pack onboard.

Update2: The Vaio M is all set for a European April launch, with UK prices starting at £300 (around $455) for basic specs, mentioned above.

Update3: Did we say set and ready? It’s now official, the Vaio M that is. Similar specs and same prices as noted before.

One company that has recognized Jakson’s extremely attractive merchandising potential is Sony Japan that recently announced it would release a limited edition This is it! package of the king that suppose to include a slim PS3 console, boasting a 120GB storage and a nifty Blu-ray drive. This special pack – a result of the collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan – is set to go live on January 27, either in Black or White colors, priced at ¥33,500 (about $361), nothing a fan can’t afford these days.

Sony Vaio X Series Officially Announced, 11.1-Inch Display And 2GHz Intel Atom Processor Are In

It’s not a secret that Intel’s latest 2GHz Atom Processor is looking for new lavish netbooks to sit in, while making its way out to the market in the coming weeks. Now we’ve been told that Intel’s speedy CPU has finally found a fancy ultra-portable device to be accommodated, as Sony officially announces the Vaio X, an 11.1-inch netbook/notebook series that weighs only 1.6 pounds and made out of carbon-fiber materials. True, it ain’t going to be cheap, in fact you’ll have to pay a whopping $1499 – yes you’ve heard that right – one thousand four hundred and ninety nine dollars, that’s what you’ll be asked to shell out in order to get a slim Vaio X machine, including an Atom Z550 processor, tucked with an SSD drive, Windows 7 Home Premium edition, an integrated Verizon 3G slot and a 3.5-hour battery that is claimed to deliver up to 14 hours of work, in case you’re using the “super-extended” battery. Oh, and those of you who are crazy enough to buy one, will also receive a multitouch trackpad to flick and tap around – Duh.

Update: We’ve added an unboxing video of the Vaio X, made by the NewGadgets people, who were kind enough to share their first preview shots among the interweb geeks. In this video, you can see how thin the X series is and why Sony keeps hitting us with top notch machines. Truth to be told, price tag isn’t so friendly in this case, but that’d probably apply to many other products with such a lucrative design. Sony's OLED NW-A840 Walkman Hits The 64GB Flash Storage Mark

Sony strikes again, this time with the new NW-A840 mp3 player, which is a 7.2mm walkman device that sports a 2.8-inch OLED display, upscaled to 720×480 pixel resolution via a built-in TV output. In addition, the A840 is probably one of the first portable audio machines we’ve ever seen, to include a staggering 64GB flash drive storage, which lets you accommodate your entire audio/video library collection on such a tiny frame. Also bundled inside the box are Sony’s premium MDR-EX300SL earbuds, which come along with a reasonable battery, claimed to deliver up to 29-hours of music playback or 9 hours of video. Scheduled to October 31st, you get to choose out of three different A-series versions – the first, 16GB NW-A845 priced at ¥24,000 (or $265), the second, 32GB NW-A846 which will cost you ¥30,000 (or $330), and THE third, a 64GB NW-A847 that will set you back for ¥40,000 (or $440) – all available either in Brown/Gold flavors (in picture) or an elegant Black.

Update: Looks like Sony just rolled out a European version of that Japanese NW-A840 walkman, which boasts exactly the same features, including a 2.8-inch OLED, paired with 7.2mm thin body and 28 hours of audio playback, but named NW-A845 and available in a 16GB “Falcon Black” version, only. Sony's PS3 Slim Edition Console Officially Announced, Goes Live In September For $300 (Update: Now Officially On Sale Across The US)

Yes, we all heard about it time after time on recent weeks, but now it’s for real, as Sony finally makes the PS3 Slim edition official, at GamesCom show, ending up months of rumors and speculation about the new gaming console. And speaking about the slim console, turns out it will be available in the first week of September, worldwide, priced at merely $300 (that’s 300 Euros, or 29,980 Yen) and packing a 120GB HDD along with all the good features we know from the regular PS3. In addition, the slimmer version actually have clickable buttons on front, while sized 32 percent less than previous model. Furthermore, the new edition apparently consumes 34 percent less power and the bundle includes a wireless DualShock3 controller to comfortably rock your gaming experience from your living room sofa, as vertical stand is optional for extra $24. Sony will also release Firmware version 3.0, next to the Slim debut, so you will enjoy animated themes with avatars, some cool UI changes, modified friends lists and even a new status indicator, when running your brand new matte black console for the first time. Update1: Apparently, you won’t be able to play any Playstation 2 games with your new PS3 Slim console, which is a bummer (!) if you think about it, since not having a PS2 backwards compatibility will force everyone get rid of their cool games collection, but this way or another, if you keep searching for some cool advantages inside the latest Slim edition, then mind you this hot box will presumably support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bit-streaming through your fancy hi-fi receiver. Huzzah!

Update2: Looks like Sony’s new PS3 Slim console is officially up and available across US retailers like Best Buys and GameStops (earlier than expected) for $299, so you can go down to your local store and get it NOW. Meanwhile, If you happen to have it at your disposal, already, and curious to see the inside parts of the box, hit the break and take a look, both at the image (one of few) and video footage that iFixit group has recently published.

Update3: A 250GB PS3 Final Fantasy XIII edition officially announced, set to be released in Japan somewhere around December for ¥41,600 Yen. Image is right after the break.

Update4: And moments after, Amazon.co.uk has listed a 250GB version as well, but this time you’ll have to settle with the ordinary black. Pre-order price is set for £285 ($455) and delivery is scheduled to October 1st.

Sony's New S-Series Walkmans Surface Up In France (Update: Now In Asia)

It’s getting hard to follow Sony lately, with all its media players activity, which gets into high gear on recent weeks, especially in Europe, with the E-Series showing up almost� a month ago, and now the S-Series that was listed up on a French retailer website called Materiel’s , featuring the 8GB NWZ-S544 and 16GB NWZ-S545, both equipped with a 2.4-inch QVGA wide-screen display, along with an FM tuner, a mic, built-in stereo speakers, an integrated stand for landscape video watching, and a strong Li-ion battery that can deliver up to 42 hours of audio or 6.5 hours of video, whenever it plays one of the supported formats, including MP3, non-DRM AAC, WMA, H.254, MPEG4, and WMV. In terms of pricing, the S-Series is priced at 129 Euros (about $180) for the 8GB model and 149 Euros ($211) for 16GB flavor. Still no official announcement from Sony, nor any Stateside availability details, so stay tuned for even more to come.

Update1: Apparently Sony America has just gotten official with the S-Series walkmans. The new lineup will include the 8GB NWZ-S544 and 16GB NWZ-S545, both equipped with the aforementioned specs. Mind you, playing music via speakers will make your battery going drained after only 17 hours of audio workout or 5 hours of video playback. The good news are that Sony has plans making them available Stateside (either in black, pink, violet, or red), next month, priced at $110 and $130, respectively. Update3: Sony adds two more version to its all new S series of players. Both walkmans, S640 and S740 boast a 2-inch display, pumped to 720×480 screen resolution via TV-output. And while the first (S640) houses either 8GB or 16GB capacities, the second (S740) has an additional 32GB model to offer aside from the other two. Other than that, both machines are equipped with noise cancellation filters and presumably expected to go out in Japan somewhere this month, with prices ranging from ¥16,000 ($155 USD) to ¥25,000 ($278 USD). Sony's E-Series Video Walkman Gets a European Announcement

If OLED walkmans might exceed your annual PMP budget and seems too pricey acquiring, Sony Europe has officially announced a new video mp3 player, under E-Series category, which suppose to go live from the end of July for an undetermined price that will probably be lower than previous versions. The players themselves are expected to support wide range of formats, while hardware includes an FM tuner, together with five band EQ, a 2-inch (320 x 240) QVGA display, a built-in microphone, 4/8/16GB capacities to choose from and either Black or Red colors to choose from. Update: Apparently, this series will have three models included, the NWZ-E443, E444 and E445 players, packing the aforementioned capacities, respectively.

Sony To Announce The VAIO W Atom N280 Netbooks In Japan

Think you’ve seen them all? Try again, as Sony FINALLY joins the netbook world, officially announcing the VAIO W series, which suppose to get a Japanese release somewhere this August for a pricey tag of ¥60,000 or about $629. Other than that, Sony’s new VAIO W machine, or in its industrial name the VPCW119XJ, boasts pretty much the same specs we’re all familiar with, including a 10.1-inch display running at 1366 x 768 pixels, along with Intel’s Atom N280 (1.66 GHz) processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard-drive, GMA 950 Graphics accelerator, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connection, Bluetooth, Ethernet, built-in camera, 3-cell battery support supporting 3.5h of work (6-cell optional), Windows XP onboard, a trendy VAIO chiclet keyboard (86% the size of regular one) and myriad of colors to choose from, such as Black, Sugar White, Berry Pink and Cocoa Brown, all stuffed inside a 267.8mm x 27.5mm x 179.6mm device. It’s all relatively new, and as of this moment there are no details when it will hit Western shores or how much will it cost here (hopefully cheaper) but until then, feel free to jump the break and watch the video we’ve added in, together with the full press release.

Sony's PSP Go Surfaces Up Before Its Time (Update: Now Official – $249)

It’s not that we were totally surprised when Sony’s new gaming console abruptly showed up in a June 09 Qore edition – after all, rumors are floating around for quite some time – Yet, having a first look on a future portable gaming device can definitely rock our geeky heart, which barely stands the endless expectation for the official announcement to take place. And with so many neat features crammed inside, It shouldn’t take long until we snack ourselves a copy or two. But until we’ll manage to fulfill this dream, you all should probably like to know that Sony’s new PSP GO – as for on the go – seems to be offered with a 3.8-inch screen display, along with a built-in Bluetooth connectivity, rounded sleeky slider design and 16GB of internal Flash, expandable via Memory Stick Micro slot. Other essential traits to be noted include a smooth integration with PlayStation 3 gaming console (full network support), thin-and-light body design (43% lighter than PSP-3000), “10-year life-cycle products” guarantee (meaning long term viability) and various new action-game titles like Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet and Metal Gear Solid – in plan. With no pretensions to be crowned as a PSP-3000 successor and without determined price-tag given, all that’s left is a vague “This Fall” release announcement, which Sony executives were willing to share. Update1: Sony just announced the PSP Go at the E3 convention, to be available on October 1 in North America and Europe for $249, with a month later release in Japan. Turns out it’s 50% smaller and 40% lighter than Sony’s first PSP-1000 console, as most other specs remain the same, with few surprises at the corner – like a built-in WiFi connection, a new auto-playlist feature which randomly plays your favorite music and called Sense Me, a new video delivery service, and a lack of the UMD drive, implying you’ll be loading your games either through the Memory Stick Micro slot or over PlayStation’s network. Update2: In case you were all wondering what will happen to your old UMD games, once getting the PSP GO, maybe you should know that Sony will be offering for purchasing digital copies of those gamese, but maybe – just maybe – the company will be generous enough to make it even free of charge. Sony's NWZ X-Series Walkmans Finally Turns Official Stateside

Great news for those who’ve been anxiously waiting Sony’s new OLED walkman series to hit western shores, as the company officially announces a US release, while some Asian parts of the world already enjoy this 3-inch wonder for almost a month. Apparently, American citizens can order their piece of audio technology from Amazon and pay the same prices Apple listed the iPod Touch players, which means you get to choose between 16GB / 32GB capacities, both scheduled to mid-June. And if your memory just ditched for a second, we’re here to remind that your options include either the NWZ- X1051 version (16GB ), priced at $299, or the double sized NWZ- X1061 edition for only $399.

Sony Walkman NWZ-X1000 Series Gets Official Specs

We eagerly expect Sony’s new OLED walkman to be released, so we can have a chance playing with it and take an in-depth look inside. Until then, we’ll have to settle with the full specs that have emerged to the world by SonyStyle Hong Kong. According to the Asian store, the NWZ-X1000 players will include a 3-inch 432 x 240 OLED display, together with an FM tuner, WiFi b/g connection and internet browsing with YouTube support. More in the list, a battery that delivers up to 33hrs of audio or 9hrs of video playback and wide range of supported formats, such as MP3, WMA, AAC-LC and WAV audio files, while in video we can mention MPEG-4, H.264, or WMV files. Still, no word about Stateside presence, but as previously reported it is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK, as the 16GB Sony Walkman NWZ-X1051 goes for £214 ($310) while the 32GB version, the Sony Walkman NWZ-X1061,will cost you £283 ($410).

Update2: Looks like Sony’s NWZ-X1000 series is about to make a debut in Japan on April 25th, offered in Black or Red flavors and priced at 40,000 yen ($400) for the 16GB NWZ-X1050 version and 50,000 yen ($500) for the 32GB NWZ-X1060.

For those who plan on getting a new shiny PSP 3000 console, hold on for a while, as Sony Japan has just announced 4 new carnival colors to hit the gaming device, starting March 5th. The new collection, which comes in Blue, Red, Yellow or Green flavors is expected to be priced at ¥19,800 ($225), but in case you wish to include 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, a pouch, a wrist strap and a cloth in the bundle, it will cost you ¥24,800 ($279). In any case, both options pack a 2200mAh battery inside to your satisfaction, so it’s worth the waiting, specially if you’re tired of those boring black/silver hues.

Sony Walkman NWZ-X1000 Sprouts Out With an OLED Touchscreen

We know, touchscreen players are the hottest thing around the block, and many companies are doing enormous efforts to take a share from Apple’s control over the market. Although it is unproclaimed, Sony has a great interest to confront the iPod Touch head-to head when it shows out its latest NWZ-X1000, a 3-inch OLED touchscreen Walkman player with WiFi capabilities and either 16GB ($299) or 32GB ($299) capacities to choose from – pretty much identical to the iPod Touch – heh. Additionally, the UI unveils sort of a “cover flow” feature to handle your music, while technologically the Japanese has finally integrated the noise cancelation element, in case you’re using a 13.5mm EX headphones. We’re still lack of any further details concerning other specs or availability, but meanwhile you can checkout the video after the break.

Update: Feb 25th – It is now available to order from Amazon UK, as shipment is set to 5 weeks. The 16GB Sony Walkman NWZ-X1051is priced at £214 ($310) while the 32GB version, the Sony Walkman NWZ-X1061,will set you back for £283 ($410).

Sony Vaio P 8" Netbook Officially Introduced

It’s CES time and plenty of announcements are making their way out, as the companies try their best to catch our eyes with new technoligies and lavish shapes. One of those products, which made us drooling all over the place is the new Sony Vaio P, an 8-inch netbook with an astounding LED-backlit 1,600 x 768 XBRITE-ECO LCD display, only 1.4 pounds weight and plenty of top-notch features, including Windows Vista onboard, Intel Processor (1.33GHz, 512kB L2 Cache), an integrated 3G WWAN capabilities, a GPS module, built-in webcam, track pointer inside the keyboard, 802.11n WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity and a battery that can provide up to 4 hours of use or 8 hours in case you’re equipped with the optional high-capacity cell. The Vaio P design is breath taking and you’ll be able to choose between onyx black, crystal white, garnet red, emerald green, or classic black flavors, somewhere around February, starting at $900 for the basic package, which houses 2GB RAM and 60GB HDD – Definitely not cheap, but absolutely worthy. Update1: while US residents can only get the 1.33GHz CPU version, Japanese VAIO P models also offer the 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor, which is significantly stronger. Having said that, you should know that a 1.86GHz processor, along with a 64GB SSDis priced at $1,549, or even $1,899 in case you want the 128GB SSD option – Too Pricey !

IFA 2008: Sony Officially Introduces S, E And B Walkman Series

Following Sony’s recent Walkman lineup revelation, the company has decided to go official, introducing “S”, “E”, and “B” Walkman players, to be released in the coming September with prices ranged from $45 up to $180.

The S series

Includes the 4GB NWZ-S736F and 8GB NWZ-S738F Walkmans, coming up with a light 7.5mm thick design, a 2-inch QVGA LCD display, an FM tuner, noise-cancelling technology, drag-and-drop file management and wide formats support, like MP3, WMA, AAC, Linear PCM, JPEG, and MPEG-4. Battery life is very impressive and can deliver up to 40 hours of audio playback or 10 hours of video.

Sony To Introduce a Wireless Keypad Attachment For Your PS3 Game Controller

How many times have you encountered with difficulties to write on your PS3 game console through the lame virtual keyboard UI and the retard SIXAXIS controller? Well, guess what, hot news are coming from the Leipzig Games Convention, as Sony unveils a wireless keypad attachment, that hooks onto your SIXAXIS/DIALSHOCK3 game pad and lets you use the built-in keypad comfortably, whenever you need it. Mind you, the unit is compatible with other Bluetooth enabled devices, such as mobile phones and other gadgets. Still no word on price but we do know it will go live around November 2008, in 8 different assimilated languages.

Sony PSP 3000 Officially Goes Live In Europe On October 15th

Some internet rumors become real, some don’t. This one is now official, as Sony has announced the new PSP-3000, at the Leipzig Games Convention, to be released on October 15th across Europe, with the same PSP-2000 design, but with a better “Outside Friendly” screen visibility, a built-in microphone for your Skype experience and a new PS button, to be defined later-on. Price is set for 199 ($291) and we tune in for more details to come.

Update: October 14th – it is now available across North America for $199.99.

New Sony Walkman lineup coming up soon, including NWZ-E435, NWZ-E436, and NWZ-E438 models, all equipped with a 2-inch QVGA LCD display, an FM tuner and storage capacity, ranged from 2GB up to 8GB. The players support MP3, WMA , AAC, Linear PCM, JPEG, AVC (H.264/AVC), MPEG-4 files and the battery can provide 30 hours of audio or 4 hours of continuous video playing. Sony Announces The Release Of The PMX-M89 PMP For The Chinese Market

Sony has introduced its latest PMX-M89 PMP, designed exclusively for the Chinese market and equipped with a 4.3-inch wide screen (480 x 272), an FM tuner, a microphone, 9EQ, a memory card slot and 16GB of storage capacity. It is sized at 116.9 x 74 x 12.7 mm and has a Map Browser which is a sort of an A-GPS application to navigate your way, wherever you are. Format support is reasonable, with MP3, WMA, AAC audio files, AVi, MP4, MPEG-4 video files and JPEG compatibility for image files. Available in black and white, the player will play 6 hours of video or 18 hours of audio , so if Sony is a brand you like and China is your next destination, $330 and the player is yours.

I’m sure Microsoft is planning a portable Xbox 360 device; after all, if Sony can develop one, Redmond can do it as well. Meanwhile, until it happens, we have a chance to look at an interesting portable concept that was emerged on T3 magazine, opening our appetite and our gaming imagination. This handheld concept features an all-in-one device, including a Microsoft Zune, XBox 360 and a mobile phone, packed in a sexy slim and sleek case, with gaming buttons on the right side and directions pad to the left. Honestly, I will be stoked having only an Xbox 360 portable device without the phone or the Zune included, so if people from Microsoft are listening, we do yearn for one of those.

Sony PSP Gets a Metallic Blue Flavor

More new colors keep wrapping the PSP console, as Sony announces the release of the new stunning metallic blue PSP, coming up bundled with a Madden NFL 09 package, on August 12th. Additionally, the box will include a 1GB Memory Stick, a voucher to download the game Beats, free of charge, and the “NFL: In Just One Play” video on UMD, all in all for the same old $200 price tag. Personally, I like the blue so i’m a little biased, but it seems the bundles trend is doing good for Sony.

Greenpeace Alerts From Dangerous Chemicals In Game Consoles

I don’t want to put you into panic, but i guess it is important for gamers to be aware of the possibility that game consoles might contain some hazardous chemicals with an impact on their memory and learning capabilities for the long term. The source for this latest alert is Greenpeace, who tested 3 major gaming consoles, including Xbox, PS3 and Nintento Wii. The organization has found those dangerous materials, like phthalates and bromine, in each one of the consoles, on different parts, so next time you crash your car on GTA IV, just think of the consequences. Mind you, Greenpeace offers a direct contact to the manufacturers in order to put some pressure and demand a clean up consoles. Interestingly, only Nintendo’s email has worked out.

Remember the Xbox 360 limited-edition version, bundled with Grand Theft Auto IV? Turns out Sony has the same thing, as a 40GB PS3 console, packed with the desired game, has popped up in a Swedish retailer’s website, offering a nice designed GTA IV case along with all the required accessories. Price is extremely high, since the Scandinavian market is very expensive, but even though, 4,499 SEK ($755) won’t deter fanatic gamers from purchasing it. No details when this special edition is set to be released in the US, but be sure it will, for a much cheaper price.

PS3 Firmware Update 2.20 Enables Full Blu-ray 2.0 Capabilities

The upcoming PS3 firmware update, will bring some substantial improvements to the game console. According to Sony, version 2.20, which is just days from launch, will feature Blu-ray spec 2.0 and BD-Live capabilities that include online downloading of video content, ringtones and interactive movies or audio. In addition, you will be able to copy to your PSP photos and music playlists via USB connection. The update will also add movies bookmarking function, so you can return back to the exact point and resume play from where you left off. Furthermore, “Audio Output Device” function will enable the PSP console to serve as a remote control for music played through the PS3. Check the full details after the break.

Sony PSP Gets a New AV Cradle

Sony has announced a new PSP cradle, to be available in Japan in April 24th. The new desirable cradle enables PSP users to output movies or games straight to their TV box and control it directly from their couch with a supplied IR remote.
